szczerbacki surname history or town name shidlofchar/shydloviet

My grandmother, MAIDEN NAME WAS SZCZERBACKI, BORN 1889 MARRIED IN ENGLAND 1910, All I know is she was from poland a place called (shidlofchar or another spelling shydloviet) can anyone tell me if this place is in poland or was it russia in the late 1800.
Or any information on the name szczerbacki or what it means

Szczerbacki from szczerba (gap, crevice, rfit) could have arisen as a nickname for a gap-toothed individual or someone hailing from such localities as Szczerbaków, Szczerbice or Szczerbowo (Gapton, Gapbury, Gapville). There are several places in Poland called Szydłowiec (Awlshire, Awlville) -- a szydło is an awl.

Do you think prior to 1900 the town could of been in russia as borders of countries changed.

The town of Szydłowiec in the Mazowsze region was under Russian rule, a village by that name in SE Poland was in the Austrian zone, and another village called Szydlowiec was in the Prussian-occupied Poznań region. There was no Poland on the map in 1900.
