Wiktoria Wachtor born in 1922- Poland ? anyone Knew?

Hi everyone,

My mother recently found her sister through the internet. My mother was given up for adoption as was her sister and brother in Poland. It is believed there is more children? My mother was born in 1954 her sister in 1956 and brother in 1947? Her mothers name was Wiktoria Wachtor born in Pasierbiec in 1922. We are looking for any information anyone with the last name? Maybe someones grandma or great grandma. She has since passed away.

Are you sure the spelling of her name is correct? Looking at it I would rather think that it's Viktoria Wachter.

Yes . It is Polish The W is V in Polish. I am 100% positive we have my mothers original birth certificate. This is the way it is spelled. Wiktoria Wachtor.

Wachtor seems to be more popular in US than in PL
up to 3 FPM in Illinois
compared to 1 FPM in Wielkopolska

On the other hand WachtEr is very popular in german speaking countries.
She could be of german origins settled in Wielkopolska, Poland.

We originally did search U.S. This is difficult because most likely the child who was given up for adoption would only know their real last name if they did in fact see their original birth certificate. It is believed there is another boy born in the 50's. We do know of some family in Poland already. Krakow area i believe. The family in America I did send some e-mail to. No on knows anything. I did notice Wachtor name was on Ellis Island passenger list in early 1900's, this was before Wiktoria Wachtor was even born. There could be settlers from very distant family. Most of her relatives are still in Poland.

it is all possible. reason I mentioned about german origins is that polish surnames and polish nation do have mixed origins. Getting back even to medieval era the region now known as Poland was settled by Germans, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Ukrainian, Russian, even Turkish.

As Wachtor doesn't sound as typical as polish you make an exercise to find any similarities in german/russian names. Wachter comes from german language and is giving you even deeper origins of Wachtor. Their Great-great-great german grandparents could settle on polish grounds years before and as time went by they could slightly change the name to WACHTOR...
That change could also happen on passenger list. e and o are similar in shape.
