Classes, books, audio books, CDs? - best way to start to learn Polish!

Books?
Audio books?
CD-ROM?

I'm going to learn Polish! I am! :)

I'm wondering what the best way to start would be and if I could use anyones experience to point me down the right track which books etc worked out best for them.

I don't speak Polish (will be starting in September if time permits), however I do speak several other languages.

Classes are great because you have a teacher who can correct you, plus you can learn from other people's mistakes etc. Also, having to be at a regular class at a set time each week and having to submit homework etc. will keep you on track.

What works for me is to surround myself with the language as much as possible. Hang out with Poles, listen to Polish Radio (I'm listening to Radio Orla - internet radio as I type), pick up a copy of Panorama or Cooltura (both are free) and see how much you can understand... even if it's just the text on an advertisement for phone cards.

Get on polish chats like wp.pl,buy a good dictionary and read news in polish sites.
Also listen to some Doda interviews.

It's an option.

What about trying to talk to some Polish people? Is that a possibility.
That's how I started. The next step was to join this forum. It's a slow process. The book I have is okay for a bit of learning, but things seem stick in the mind better if I've asked someone how to say something, then repeated it back. I find I have to use each thing I've learnt at least three times before it really sinks in. I suppose I might just be a bit of a slow person.

Unless they are fluent in English, in which case you won't make much of an effort.

So I'm downloading Rossetta Stone, Pimsleur and I paid for Learn Polish Now! from digital river because I got a recomendation from a friend.

I also downloaded The PWN Oxford Concise English - Polish, Polish - English Dictionary although I would like a print copy but I want to check it before I buy as with Rossetta Stone and Pimsleur.

Anyways it's a start!

Books to Learn Polish.. Any Suggestions?

Hi - I was wondering if anybody might know some good materials (books etc) to learn Polish with? I Have been learning Polish for a while now and my vocabulary knowledge is getting better, but without a good textbook to guide me through the language i'm finding it difficult to improve my grammar and general practise of the language. When I first started learning I went to a summer school and the teacher used "Miło mi, panią poznać" - which was a good book, but now is far too easy for me. I need a book that is not aimed at beginners.
I also have "Polish in 4 weeks" (haha! Yeah?? No chance!) which is ok but a little too small and lacking in information and exercises and "Basic Polish Grammar" which is a bit confusing and difficult.
I am an English teacher and just want to find a textbook for learning Polish similar to the textbooks i teach my students English with! Are there any out there?? :D
