Any polish words like the american words dude, man(as in whats up man), fam(family) also if you dont know many americans use the controversial word "nigga" coming from "nigger" but is not meant racist at all but like the words I listed, but because it is so controversial considered a bad word by many.

Where I work we use the words ślimak, leniwiec and baran more often. None of these mean dude or anything like that.

closest you will find for 'dude, man' in this context is "człowieku!" or "stary!"

yeah, this is neutral... used sometimes when we refer to someone who we don't know.

Also...

ziom and variations - ziomek, ziomal, ziomalek, ziomas, ziomuś

dude - koleś or stary

typ - used sometimes in situations like
'ej typie, a wpie$#%@ dawno nie dostałeś?',
'ej typie jak cie tu jeszcze zobacze .... '

there are also some variations of koleś - for example koleszka

also non positive word - leszcz, 'spadaj stąd leszczu!'

if someone know equivalent words for Polish slang that I used here then feel free to translate sentences above.

stary ziom"

I would say yes, sometimes, not often used ... it would mean sth like 'old (but current) friend'

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22to+m%C3%B3j+stary+ziom%22&ie=utf-8&o e=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:pl:official&client=firefox-a

'to mój stary ziom' - this is my old friend

ZIOMek is rather new, i don't think that ppl over 30 use it. it came from hip hop/pseudo-gangsta/drug-fan culture and some people may be annoyed when called ZIOM, so please be careful. Good word in general is:

CZŁOWIEKU ,-> listen dude - słuchaj człowieku.

GOŚĆ, KOLEŚ might be little insulting in some situations

Same in UK, if you are friends, you can call your buddy a CUNT and it is ok.
But for unknown ppl you have to be careful, cheerz mate

Some people, friends or not, take great exception to the word cunt. It's not worth saying it... even to a friend.

Ziomek/Ziom is a person from an old country, especially when met abroad. Koleś is a cute word for a buddy.

"ziomek" will be certainly used by people over 30. Its origin gas nothing to do with any hip hop garbage, other than it is being used by the subculture. The word has been in use for at least 100 years.

true enough but before it hasn't been used like English dude
ziom hasn't been invented until then as well

That's an adaptation of usage, not invention.
I heard "ziomal" and "ziom" before anybody even considered hip hop or crap.

no, facet isn't a slang... it's just a world for 'bloke' or 'guy'.

There is a very fine line between slang and colloquial speech. Slang either comes and goes or becomes colloquial. Such words as dude, bloke, chap, guy are probably classifiable as colloquial but not long were very slangy.
In Polish, jegomość once was slang for bloke but now is on the archaic side, but gość is still used.
Fajny has had quite a long lifespan but still is slang. So is cool in English.
But klawy and swell are not heard all that often anymore.

fajny isn't a slang... would never think about it this way. Other than that you're right - the line between colloquial speech and slang is fine.

and btw - I guess that cool is more often used these days in Poland than klawy.
