Cze¶ć!
My first post on this forum is a bit unusual, though I have spent many hours happily reading through discussions on here.

I am learning Polish at the moment. Of course I enjoy frequent familiar curse words, though I am attempting a greater fluency than just that. However I get a bit stuck on this wonderful sounding word so satisfying to cry at the end of a day's work!
My confusion is about the simple etymology of the word. Whereas most swears in most languages are evidently referring to hmm, various biological and sexual functions, I can't seem to work out where it comes from, or more importantly what it is about the word that makes it a 'coarse' or 'RUDE!' word!?

Can anybody enlighten me?

Z góry dziękuję za pomoc. :-)

Simply it's because it derives from the word 'zajebać', which means 'to fu(king kill sb'.

Zajebać and jebać are different words. But if you look at the verb (zajebać) corresponding to the adverb zajebi¶cie (or adjective zajebisty), you see that the stem is the same as in jebać (fuck). This can be one of the reasons why you can translate for example zajebista piosenka as "fucking great song". But it's kind of vulgar.

"Over-f.ckingness." :) The root is j.bać, to f.ck. In the context, it's quite similar to the English unbe-f.cking-lievable, for instance. :) "F.cking great" etc.

zajebingo!

Thanks!

Although I could be awkward and ask how zajebać comes to mean f***ing kill sb, as opposed to just 'to kill sb..' ;-)

Because it's vulgar. And the normal way to say "to kill somebody" is completely different, and has nothing to do with zajebać.

But it's important to remember that zajebisce/zajebisty can have a positive meaning, like in "zajebista piosenka" (fucking great song).

Thank you for your replies! I feel a lot better now. It's true, I never had noticed the 'jeb' root in the word as if the Zaje and the biscie had felt like the significant elements, I understand much better now.

And pgtx, thanks ;)... gówno jest dobrze ale wolę gnój

Zaje and the biscie

Even Zajeb as a "stem". Or jeb if you correspond it to jebać (to fuck).

Doesn't "fabryczny" refer to "muzyk"? Ie. The "muzyk" is both "uliczny i fabryczny", and "malpa" is just... ekhm, well... there.

Muzyk (or muzykant) uliczny means a street musician.

Małpa fabryczna means (sarcastically) a factory worker.

Heh, sorry for suspecting you anyways, I don't think it's very creative nor that it is witty. It's just a random imaginary couple of words glued together.. you could put anything in there..

Beside I didn't see that guy using these words "małpa fabryczna"...

wiem wiem... not a day goes by without at least 3 'pierdolenierobie's for this fabryczna małpa. However, I realised that I'm not certain the deeper meaning or origin of 'pierdolę' either!. i tend to use it like 'ah, sod it' 'to hell with that'

Sure, sure. I'm just trying to understand the mechanics of it...
na dole, means downstairs right? Pier, i can think Piekło,..Pies..(s)pierdalej..pierd. I always thought it must be one of either 'to the dogs' or 'to hell. Am I getting close?

Pierdolić.... ok, that clears things up somewhat! it's its own verb. I knew the meanings of the rest, I was attempting to formulate the word from them. Ie - dogdownstairs..etc :) you missed off 'Pierd' ;)

Yeah, I know, I'm Polish :) it's just that I saw a different syntactic connection there.

pierd = a fart
