Famous saying of Maksim Zeleznyak still alive.

Ukrainian Carlsberg's subsidiary Livivske Pivo used for its TV ads story of Ukrainian rebel Maksim Zeleznyak responsible for mass slaughter, so called Massacre of Uman (Human) with more than 20000 Polish, Jewish and ... Ukrainian victims.

The TV story goes like that:
after having some Lvivske Beer Zeleznyak and his boys started mass killings which looked rather like a funny carnival of Human.
Finally they they hung side by side a Pole, a Jew, and a dog, and wrote over them: "Pole, Jew , and dog are all of one faith."

I'm far from accusing Ukrainians of some forgotten Cossacks' crimes - Polish troops were not better starting with a nice custom of impaling the rebels.

The only questions I have are:
Who was the idiot responsible for this tasteless advertisements ?
What is position of Carlsberg on this xenophobic and antisemitic scandal ?

Have you seen it? It doesnt seem like their style. Carlsberg's adverts are hardly "political" - they want to sell beer, nothing more.

I don't understand a word but as the story goes it seems two men first growl at each other, one about to be killed by another but then beer comes into play and they decide to party together instead....:)

I'm not fluent in Ukrainian so it takes more time to understand articles or postings from Ukrainian boards.
Anyway, there was a kind of TV serial "With Lviv beer through the Ukrainian history"
(«З львівським пивом по історії України») and spot we are talking about was a part of it


In general Ukrainian comments are very critical .

I looked at Carslberg and they don't list this brand nor any presence in Ukraine. It was wiki, so is it correct or are they part of Carlsberg Group?

I'm not quite sure but according to my best knowledge "Lvivske" belongs
to the Russian "Baltika" which is a part of Carlsberg group.
But in Ukrainian net they use to say "Lvivske" is Carlsberg.
Complicated.

BTW. Even the question what will be Carlsbergs's position on this ad comes from some Ukrainian article.

They might allow the Ukrainians to replace the Jew with a Russian. Offending Jews gets a quick response. Keep an eye on this.

L'vivske Brewery is owned by Carlsberg group. They produce really good beer - my favorite is named "1715", because the brewery itself was founded in that year. It is the oldest brewery in Ukraine, so Lviviany, me included, are very proud of it. Of course, it is young compared to some western and central European breweries. But nevertheless... The first brewery museum was recently openned in L'viv on St. Kleparivska 18.
In the 1st ad by 1jola, it is about a prince who was coming back from the war and he was willing to get as fast as possible home and nothing could stop him on the way. But within city wall a monk crossed him on his way. He was about to kill him and the rest BB's story is right. The beer has never left the prince table since that day on. All that it says occurred in 1715.
At the end it says that the glory of Lvivske beer spread to the west and to the east.
The last three words are : "Feel the taste of a legend".

Can you find the TV spot mentioned in the OP or at least comment on it. Is this considered good humor in the Ukraine? Is it being aired on TV now or is there an issue about showing it?

It goes far beyond the second one I posted, which I find humorous and not offensive at all. We can take a joke.

I have never seen this ad on Ukrainian TV. Even if it was aired (doubt it), it should have been taken out, because it is tactless, extremely rude and doesn't reflect Ukrainian humor at all (at least the one that is aired ;)

Who owns Carlsberg?...That would give you an indication...I would say the pecking order in these politically correct times would be, as far as 'protecting from defamation':

1) Zhidsiki
2) Dogs
3) Polski

If some genius marketing "team" thought this would bring attention to their product and increase sales they just might enter the textbooks on marketing to join the famous blunders like when the Americans wondered why South Americans were reluctant to buy the Chevy NOVA which in Spanish means NO GO.

How is that for a run-on sentence?

Are there not codes of ethics involved, even in marketing? If this is a Carlsberg brand, they wouldnt allow it, their adverts are "light hearted" this is part of the brand "image" and that Jola is what its all about.

I don't know much about Ukrainian humour or TV advertising, but i do know that most of what you read in the newspaper is not true. So I would not be surprised if this TV advert never really happened. Maybe it was a sick joke of creative types who worked too late and smoked too much hashish. But did anyone actually see it on TV?

Hard to say - first critical comment was published on the Ukrainian Portal "Ukrainskaya Pravda" by Mykola Ryabchuk who is an independent journalist and analyst.
And all following comments were linked to his story.
I can hardly believe Ryabchuk is risking his reputation using unproven information.
Moreover, there are many different opinions on Ukrainian boards but nobody denies the fact.

I think the whole thing is hilarious...Probably only in Russia or the Ukraine you could make yhis ethnic humour, right?...In the EU, forget it...The equivalent in the USA would be, say, taking a Black, a Mexican and a chimpanzee and putting them all in a commercial for DisneyWorld, and sayin 'Hey, these three monkeys love to monkey around at DisneyWorld!'
