Sorry im not sure what will happend but there should be alot of ceremonies.noimmigration shut up Polish soldiers fought bravely being out numbered yet they killed more germans then the number of people they had.Did you listen to sabaton 40-1 that should explain to you.And if the russians and slovaks [they attacked from the south] did not attack we could of holded the germans off and more poles would join the army. And germans captured by Poles had to release them because Britain was trying to make peace.Learn history before you post

I love it when poles try to excuse their miserable failures. Poland was annihalated in a manner of weeks by the german forces. There is nothing shameful about being a nation of people who are not known for their fighting capabilities.

I am sure poland can do lots of things better than fighting wars and battles.

I actually watched a documentary on the history channel, polish men and woman were throwing flowers and kissing british and american soldiers when they liberated the conquered poles.

2009 a Year of Anniversaries in Europe

Other than the 70th anniversary of the start of the Second World War, which began when Hitler's troops marched into Poland on Sept. 1, 1939, next year also marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism across central Europe.

Starting with democratic elections in Poland in June 1989, the year of change across central Europe culminated in November of that year with the fall of the Berlin Wall. That event became a symbol of the end of the Cold War and Europe's post-war divide.

Please can someone telmme if the story of the Polish cavalry waving swords at german Panzers is true. I'm not being anti-polish, a Polish guy himself told me this but I am not very versed in history to be able to confirm it

They did not use swords against panzers they used anti-tank guns and cannons it is just a myth when Polish calvary ran into a colum of german panzers ,But they did use swords against a motorized bridage,Its funny how the horses ran faster then the bridages motorcycles

It is not true. Only americans durring WWII had more or less fully mechanized army,. Poland in 1939 had airplains and tanks...

Poland had cavalery units but horses were used only to transport like in Fench, German and British army.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7TP

The 7TP was the Polish light tank of the Second World War. A development of the British Vickers 6-ton, it was significantly better armed than its most common opponents, the German Panzer I and Panzer II. A standard tank of the Polish Army during the Polish Defensive War of 1939

The PZL.37 Łoś (Polish: moose) was a Polish twin-engine medium bomber, used in the Invasion of Poland in 1939. Thanks to the laminar-flow wing it was one of the most modern bombers in the world before World War II.

Los

Germans had more tanks and plains ... and our border was very hard to defence. This story about cavalery against tanks is mith...

I have seen film of German tanks firing on Polish cavalry charging towards them , but it was more a case of the two units running into each other , rather than a futile attack by the Polish cavalry...Where the cavalry was used in an attack they did pretty well...

Going to graves would be a good touch. Honouring the noble dead is a good cause. And also a sign alongside the 'Arbeit Macht Frei' saying, Go Stick It!! I feel like Dexter, the need to take out evil in this world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mokra

The 21st Armoured Battalion under Maj. Stanisław Gliński, equipped mostly with Polish TKS tankettes was ordered to counter-attack the village, along with the cavalry squadron of Captain Jerzy Hollak. In the clouds of smoke of the burning village, the Polish units accidentally drove right in the middle of a German tank column. Although the Polish tankettes were no match for some of the German tanks and the cavalry was very vulnerable to tank fire, the confusion in German ranks prevented the German commander from responding quickly enough. The Polish units managed to break through the German column with negligible losses and seized the forest to the Northwest of Mokra. This manoeuvre is sometimes referred to as a charge of Polish cavalry on German tanks, although no charge was planned nor executed.

The losses on both sides were quite high. The Germans lost approximately 800 men (killed, missing, captured or seriously wounded), and between 100 and 160 AFVs (at least 50 of them tanks). The Polish brigade lost 200 killed and 300 wounded, as well as 300 horses and several guns.

I didn't think you watched this show, seanus.

As for the anniversary, i think it's a bit too early for that - there's still 9 long months to go.

The idea of defence is nice at this time but we all know that it goes a little deeper than that and is a hot potato.
