It is now 61st Anniversary of the Ukrainian "Cleansing" of the Polish populace. It began in Wolyn and then spread to the areas of Polesie and Podole. There will be a wreath laying ceremony in Wroclaw at the Monument to the Slain in June. It was a terrifying chapter of the war for the Polish inhabitants of those areas, they were killed by their neighbours with whom they used to live peacefully. Those neighbours were antagonised and implored to "cleanse" the areas by the OUN/UPA elements. These calls were even blessed by the local Ukrainian priests (popi) who resorted to blessing the knives, axes, pitchforks, etc with which these crimes were committed. In all estimates over 500.000 Poles, were killed, the killers didn't discriminate between the very old, very young, men, women or children. The majority were killed in the most horrendous ways, sometimes they were mercifully killed with a bullet but most of the time it was the knife, axe, pitchfork or in some cases an saw was used to cut them in half while they were still alive. On a number of occasions the victims were burned alive in their houses or thrown into the burning houses after being tortured.

I know of this, but the numbers, like they are many times in war, could be exagerrated...Possibly Poland, now that it is allied with the US in a 'defense pact' could possibly think of an attack on the Ukraine...but, wait, the US wants the Ukraine in NATO, too!

I am not sure if somebody will be reading this, because too many pages, but we will see. By the way, OUN/UPA actively participated in destroying of Belarussian villages. One of them is Khatyn. One of the kids of those nationalists has a President position in Ukraine and his position is absolutely clear. It looks very similar to his friend Saakashvilli, both of them are fascists by their nature. Poles, I do not understand why do you support these fascists?

Events like these were passed on by my grandmother to me. I am forever grateful to her for these times and will never forget the stories and histories she passed on to me.

Because I am Polish. I am expressing my own opinion about the events and my political views on these events. I can tell you that you've got a lot of American and western propaganda which does not allow you to think in another direction. If you want to show yourself as civil citizen of democratic state you probably should behave yourself in a proper manner. Am I right? Your notes about Georgians and Ukrainians cost absolutely nothing, because I am discussing only events which already happened and the role of some part of population in those events. I am positive that most of the people of above mentioned countries have another opinion about the events which happened during WW-II and the latest ones. I am discoursing in this way: "If you are thief, you should go in prison" or "If you war criminal you should go under International Tribunal". That is about the people who committed the crime. So, I like normal Georgians and Ukrainians, but I hate those who provoke the WW-III - Saakashvilli, US-schenko and others who supports such regimes. I understand that you probably have another opinion, because you head is full of pro-western propaganda and plus you have "pole's syndrome" against Russia and Germany. But it's weird, why are you trying to forget about those Poles who were killed by Ukrainian nationalists in 1943-1944?

Borrka: Ukrainian-Polish issues should be discussed among Poles and Ukes only IMO, OUN/UPA would not have acted the way they did had the standard of life and value of a human not been brought down to such a low value. Prior to 1939 Polish, Ukraine and I might add Jewish, lived in peace in the east. This turning on each other was survival of the fittest.

Nathan: wanted discredit Ukrainians and undermine their fight for independence. Ukraine didnt WIN its independence, it was GIVEN its independence by Russia, after what UPA did to Poles the only thing that stopped polish army from coming down on Ukraine like a ton of bricks was Russia and as it is you got off easy with only "operation Vistula" being carried out against UPA by the Poles. Russia is no saint and in WW 2 it was only slightly better than Nazi Germany but whatever else happened before and afterwards Russia gave you your independence, without it you'd be on the receiving end of the polish guns. By the time WW2 ended polish goverment drew up quite some plans for pacification of Ukraine and while you had your UPA with rifles and pistols Poland had nearly a quarter of a milion regular troops and again if not for Stalin you'd be invaded the second Germany surrendered so bend down and kiss Russias ass for giving you independence and protecting you from big bad Poles :) Nathan: Many killings committed against Poles in Volynia were done by covered up KGB men ( Bullshit, at the time the majority of the killings were done Ukraine was occupied by Germans and the killings were done by Ukrainians. S*krat, I can use your full name because it is derogatory to a great Greek philosopher whose name you are using. First of all, we fought Poles as long as we fought Russians. As you know many times we gave a good spanking - to both of ya. Ukrainians defended themselves on different fronts: Polish , Russian, German. Some viewed that with an alliance with Germany it will sooner be independent, others - considered Germany as a main agressor and defended their land in the Soviet army. Either side ultimately realized that the only way to become independent is to fight ferociously against all. Not having many men, many used teror as a tactic. Second, how do you know if they were Ukrainians or Russians when even now after Ukraine is independent for 18 years, many Poles I talked to, don't have a slightest idea in language, cultural and historical differences between the two. It is a historical fact that KGB did put on UPA military form to discredit them. With this I don't want to say that UPA didn't kill Poles as well - they did. Third, we always fought and I am proud of Ukraine. 400 years and still WE, UKRAINIANS, WON OUR INDEPENDANCE. russians tried to destroy it by killing writers, scientists, poets and even regular people who had a different opinion. People to whom I bent my head and knees fought for my country , paid by blood and resurrected it. Without them, there would be no Ukraine. Saying that russia gave us independance is sick and most importantly ignorant, but I know that you say that because you want to hurt, not because you know the truth. Fourth, do you know that out of 8.7 million Soviet soldiers fallen in WW2, 1.4 million were ethnic Ukrainians? It is almost 17%. Those that fough is estimated between 4.5 and 7 millions (big gap because of ethnic factor discrepancies). Germans suffered 93% of their losses on the Estern front. Total loss by my country is estimated 7 million people during WW2. And you dare to say that somebody gave us freedom?!!!!!!!! I hate Soviet Union myself for what it did to many generations, but many Ukrainians also died on Polish fields fighting Germans along with your partisans. So Sokrates, be kind to the fallen and be grateful that they gave us whatever we have now.

Poland supports your indpendence but Ukrainians should work much harder to save it. Independend and democratic Ukraine is in Polish interest.

Ok, here are some important victories on my side: Ostrog Zhovti Vody Korsun Pylavtsi Lviv Zbarazh Zboriv Batih In many of these battles as well as Berestechko, Poles bribed Tatars so they escaped from battlefield (pussy tactics on Polish account). In Berestechko, when bribed Tatars left, taking Chmelnickij as a hostage with them, cossacks fought like men and some gave their life holding Poles so the rest can safely retreat. And dear Sokrates, don't forget Sahaydachnyj, who in 1616 took 42,000 of cossacks to save Vladislav Vasa and Chodkiewicz from Turkish army at Khotin and sultan Osman ll retreated. Varna (10,000 navy destroyed), Synop, Kaffa were burned by cossacks in rescue of imprisoned christians. Before that they were considered unapproachable port fortresses. For russians it was Konotop battle where they lost 30,000 men in one day! Before 20,000 Sahajdachnyj troops made some mess near Moskow ( pity he didn't burn it to the ashes) in 1617. russians can't stand his name up to this day. I wish you could write at least as I did and not spittle this site with childish saliva. Otherwise, I wish you good luck and as you say "czapka z daszkiem"!

Well, you and I are animals anyway. But yes, build your relations with whomever you want. I just said about Yanek's site which is neihter Polish , nor Ukrainian which makes it greatly suspicious, don't you think so. Of course, there were killings, otherwise, we would be a part of Great Poland or Great Russia right now. Some chose this type of persuasion, because others failed to convince yuo in the long run of bloody history, where you behaved in a much worse way.
