Do you actually pay the minimum wage or not? The 'bribes' sound like a clever way to avoid paying minimum wage.

Are these positions you're advertising open only to Polish nationals, or will you consider applicants from elsewhere?

Not all countries in question have a set minimum wage. Agreements are made as temporary workers the specific details vary from country to country.

I assure you its not a bribe. This is what employees are able to save up. Some are able to save up more, others less.

For example, in Sweden the employees receive:

2000 SEK for Food.
2000 to 3000 SEK for a housing allowance.
300 to 600 SEK a month for a bus pass.
Free Gym/Swimming Membership
+3000 to 5000 SEK a month which after tax they keep and save.

Most accommodations are equipped with at least 1 computer, internet connection, Television and basic cable.

Employees live together in flats with 4 to 8 co-workers. Most of these flats are within 15 to 20 minutes by bus or train to the city center.

We try to ensure that every employee has at least 20 to 25m of living area per person. 4 people in a 80 to 100 sq. meter flat is common.

The typical profile of our employee is someone who is between the ages of 20 and 24 looking to live in a different land and work there while doing so while saving money.

Several of our managers go to school part time or even full time and we support this. We also offer language courses to all of our employees.

The work is not for everyone, its respectable blue collar labor in a rapidly growing company where employees have the opportunity to become managers in as little as a year.

For example, our managers have a company car, cell phone, and are able to save 5,000 to 10,000 EUR a year. Most people in their early 20's look at this as an opportunity. We also have a few older workers as well who are looking for a new start in life.

Employee taxes, where applicable, are paid on the employees benefits they receive (rent,food,etc) and the company benefits from various tax write offs on certain expenses, again dependent upon country.

We hire employees from other countries however, we have found from experience that teams generally work well if they all have a similar language background and come from the same country.

We hire only employees who have a legal right to work within the European Union.

For many people in Poland this is a great opportunity given the current economic climate. Freshly graduated students and unskilled labor are having quite a difficult time finding jobs now, we try to offer a better alternative.

True, as they (at least in Sweden) are paid according to collective bargaining arrangements. I assume that you do stick to the minimum agreed?

So around 8000SEK a month, or 770 Euro?

Is the minimum wage for cleaners in Sweden really as low as 770 Euro a month?

10000-11000 SEK/month (about 950-1000 €), after tax, I would say is normal for a cleaner working 40 hrs per week.

@SzwedwPolsce

Its important to point out that under the collective agreement the minimum payout for untrained workers, of which, cleaners qualify in Sweden is 17400 to 17800 a month. After taxes will vary.

We are in no way bound to stick to collective agreements that neither our employees and ourselves are not a part of. Its our employees right to choose if they want to be in a union and pay union dues. Most of our employees stay work for us on contracts of 6 months or less. Some renew contracts and some don't. Most find a union will not benefit them. Some of our employees are a part of a collective agreement but those are generally our employees who plan to stay in Sweden for a long period.

The question of 770 Euro a month. Yes, for people just entering the job market from Poland with no or little work experience. After 3 months their salary increases.

However, its important to keep in mind we provide our employees with a safe and quality living environment. Our employees literally unpack their bags on a Thursday or Friday and are being trained on Monday. Our employees have systems and routines in their living environments where they and their roommates where cleaning and cooking is shared between the members. If a job seeker from Poland was coming to Scandinavia on their own it would cost them 1000's of kroner to find living arrangements let alone a job. We provide all of it for them.

We receive many applications from people in Poland. Currently many companies in Poland are hiring workers for 200 EUR a month. We try to ensure that those same people are able to net that much.

@nirmal

Do you have a work permit for the EU?

Can be a good point. It's not as easy to get a job in Sweden today as it was 5 years ago. There are many serious companies hiring people from abroad, but remember, in all countries, there are also some that abuse their foreign employees.

But the important thing is how many hours they are supposed to work for this money.

It's important for people to know that they shouldn't work more than 40 hours/week for this salary.

@SzwedwPolsce

We always pay overtime for anything over 40 hours. We are not allowed under Swedish law to have workers employed on a Saturday AND a Sunday. Even if they want to work they are not allowed to.

Believe it or not in some instances Polish labor law is actually more difficult to work under from the standpoint of the employer than Swedish labor law.

Generally most people that work for us have the whole weekend as over 70 percent of the facilities we maintain are office or industrial that usually dont have workers in on the weekends hence nothing to clean.

When we started the company we spent alot of time writing a company handbook, planning, generating information for the workers. Its very important the workers know what to expect beforehand and that we dont promise or state anything more than we deliver.

I used Sweden as an example because that is the country with the lowest wages we pay out. Those that end up in Denmark or Norway earn more but end up taking home about the same due to higher costs of living. The second reason why I use minimums are because I dont want to mislead people. I rather have a worker come up here and receive a paycheck that is 50 to 200 Euro more than expected rather than the other way around.

Everyone that comes up here is looking for ways to make money and save money. Some of our managers when they go home return with a car load full of "survival equipment" food and drink mostly to shave costs. In the end I can only say its honest work for honest pay.

All of our employees are insured under the system, they all have social security numbers, and we only promote from within so those that want to stay end up earning several times more than the minimum we pay for new employees. We have managers that work and go to University here. Most of our workers take advantage of learning another language, a few have had relationships with loclals and ended up getting married.

Finally, the entry level job is just that. A stepping stone. I would not want either myself or anyone else to work at the entry level position more than a couple of years max. We want to give opportunity to people who are willing to work for it.

The title of this thread sounds a bit dodgy, or is it just my bad thoughts?
