Chairman of TVP flies the racist flag for Poland

Harry
5 May 2009 /  #1
No doubt his apologists will immediately jump to his defence....

"Those monkeys cannot do anything" - was supposed to have said Piotr Farfał, chairman of Polish TV about members of South African TV. The situation occurred during the INPUT conference in Johannesburg. It is the most popular public conference that takes place every year in different country.

Farfał made a blunder during the dinner with representatives of INPUT. There were many officials from many countries and Poland as well, like employees of advertisement or promotion departments. They were eating their dinner when suddenly Farfał started criticising African people - "I knew those black monkeys were losers" - writes "Gazeta Polska".

Farfał said that he was innocent and he would sue "Gazeta Polska" for telling lies. "Everyone can testify that those worlds are lies. It is provocation against me" - wrote Farfał in his official statement.

Another pathetic attempt of PF's worst racist to use racism as offensive weapon... yawn...

As predicted, straight to the defence of the leader of Polish TV comes another proud Pole. No attempt made to debate the issue, instead just a plain old personal insult, no doubt hoping to provoke a reaction which will take the thread off-topic.

Tell us Greg: does Farfał bring shame on Poland or does he actually represent the average Pole? Or is this all just yet another Jewish plot to discredit Poland?

Hi Harry,

I would love to read something genuinely positive about Poland from you, please?.
I know you live here and have become a bit of a hard-liner pointing out flaws about particular things, which I actually enjoy some of the time. At least it creates debate and discussion.

When I first joined this forum, I liked reading your no BS, very helpful facts on certain laws, things to do and ways to do them, which I have not read in a while from you (perhaps it I'm not reading the correct threads?).

Every country has these ass's, how they ever got into Diplomatic circles is worrying.
And it is not a bad thing you do, after all we must be critical.
It is just I would love a list of things that you really genuinely enjoy and are proud of, that are 100% Polish.

Best regards,
SeanBM.

P.S. excuse me if I am going off topic here but I mean my comments to be made about the bigger more general topic.

Titled "Harry only sees bad things in Poland".

You're reading the wrong forum. There is very little to like in Polish politics (as with politics in most countries) and not much to like in Polish history over the last 300 years (unless you enjoy heroic failures).

Every country has these ass's, how they ever got into Diplomatic circles is worrying.

Yes every country does but most countries have the sense to keep such arses away from positions of power. Poland however installed a fundamentalist zealot as minister of indoctrination, er, sorry, I mean minister of education.

It is just I would love a list of things that you really genuinely enjoy and are proud of, that are 100% Polish.

I don't feel proud of anything which is Polish or any other nationality. I take pride in the things I have done, not the things which other people did, no matter what passport they hold.

But perhaps I can ask Poles if they are proud of the head of their national public broadcaster?

"Harry only sees bad things in Poland".

I think there are several phases to settling in a new country.
1.In the beginning people think the novelty is great.
2.At some point they become disaffected and think that everything/everyone in their new country is rubbish or stupid. I have heard Polish people at this stage many many times in the UK.

3.Later on comes acceptance. However its easy to slip back to stage 2 at any time, also some ppl never move on from stage 2.......Harry is somewhere there like all immigrants I suppose.

Could not the same be said for every country on the planet?.

I challenge anyone to state that their country has a likeable political leadership or have a blameless history over the past 300 years.

Yes every country does but most countries have the sense to keep such arses away from positions of power. Poland however installed a fundamentalist zealot as minister of indoctrination, er, sorry, I mean minister of education.

HHhhmmm "Every country has the good sence..." I don't believe you believe that.
it seems that the least qualified get the job, from practically all countries, wouldn't you say?.
I am always hearing stories (I have never cared to find out the validity) about the royal family in England talking about the natives in Africa or China in a derogatory way.

I don't feel proud of anything which is Polish or any other nationality. I take pride in the things I have done, not the things which other people did, no matter what passport they hold.

Is that not a double edged sword?.
If you don't feel proud no matter what passport someone holds.
Does that not also mean you do not feel, resentment/anger/ashamed or just negative towards people's misdoings despite their passport?.
And of course you should be proud of your achievements in life but it reads like you live here in Poland and well... hate it.. hate everything about it.

I use the word hate because I sence some emotional link to your dislikes and criticisms.
I know some of my posts make it look like I work for the Polish tourist board, I just think there is enough negativity on this forum.

But your threads are different, you are intelligent and usually have something to say.
I would still like to see a photo of the tomb stone door mat, just out of curiosity.
OK, all that aside ha ha ha, tell us three things you enjoy/like about Poland, come on, please?.

I think there are several phases to settling in a new country.

Made me think of this (eDITED VERSION OF THE 10 STEPS OF GRIEF).
1. SHOCK 2. EMOTIONAL RELEASE 3. PREOCCUPATION WITH THE COUNTRY 4. SYMPTOMS OF SOME PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL DISTRESSES 5. HOSTILE REACTIONS TOWARDS THE COUNTRY 6. DEMANDING APOLOGIES (GUILT)7. DEPRESSION 8. WITHDRAWAL 9. THE SUBJECT BEGINS TO RE-ENTER RELATIONSHIPS 10. RESOLUTION AND READJUSTMENT TO REALITY.

But in fairness, I used to live in a country I absolutely hated (no names :)
My quality of life was zero and I am so so so glad to be out of there.
I was stuck there for 2 years, I had very little option in the matter.
And if the country had a forum like this, while I was living there, I would have been a lot more aggressive in my comments than Harry's are about Poland.

People come on here quite often from England telling Poles not to complain when living in "their" country and some ass might be tempted to say this to Harry, truth is, it is his right to have his opinions, negative or otherwise.

I would just like to hear something from him that he genuinely likes about Poland

Could not the same be said for every country on the planet?

Of course it could. Here we are discussing Poland and so we say mainly bad things about Poland. You and I realise that. Unfortunately most of the Poles (and Psuedo-Poles) who post here don’t realise it.

HHhhmmm "Every country has the good sence..." I don't believe you believe that. it seems that the least qualified get the job, from practically all countries, wouldn't you say? I am always hearing stories (I have never cared to find out the validity) about the royal family in England talking about the natives in Africa or China in a derogatory way.

The British Royal family have no real power and are legally forbidden from having any. Prince Phillip does make the odd gaff but about one every four years and of the ‘badly judged joke’ type rather than from hatred or racism.

Is that not a double edged sword?.
If you don't feel proud no matter what passport someone holds.
Does that not also mean you do not feel, resentment/anger/ashamed or just negative towards people's misdoings despite their passport?

You mean do I not treat people differently because of their passport? Of course I do not treat them differently because of their nationality. What a silly idea to do so! Next thing you’ll be suggesting that I should treat people differently based on their skin colour.

it reads like you live here in Poland and well... hate it.. hate everything about it. I use the word hate because I sence some emotional link to your dislikes and criticisms.

If you think that I hate everything you need to read more of my writing about Poland. This one forum is not representative of Poland, only her politics.

It’s more that I get frustrated about the wasted opportunities here. That and the fact that most Poles are very good people but they are represented by and served by complete prats. One example: Polish people are no more or less likely to be thieves than Swiss people but I will not send anything of any value at all via Poczta Polska unless it is insured. When I lived in Switzerland I was happy to post things via Swiss Post without insurance.

OK, all that aside ha ha ha, tell us three things you enjoy/like about Poland, come on, please?

Top of my head: the weather, the opportunities and the beer.

I misunderstood.

You were always very helpful (with no BS).
Maybe your "controversial" threads get more press, create more discussion and attack/defence and that is what I have been seeing more of.

I didn't mean it as a personal attack, just wanted to read something you liked, that's all.

YeaY! thanks :)

First, personal insults is your forte for sure.
Second, Grzegorz_ offers no defense of the Polish politician. He merely states facts. After all you come from one of the most racist countries in the world, so your posts often seem like a projection of the racial faults of your own country where top politicians, including Australia's prime ministers do not really mince words when it comes to their approach to the so called "multiculturalism".

Some examples can be found: wsws.org/articles/2009/apr2009/pers-a22.shtml

In fact, your homeland is the only developed country whose government has been condemned as racist by the United Nations : 13 Oct 2000. Poland, with its issues, is not.

jmm.aaa.net.au/articles/1175.htm

Australia is also host to some of the most vicious anti-semitic organizations. Not Poland.

Australian racism is so strong that only in 1967 did her government allow the land's native people to be the citizens of the country. Shame!

Perhaps it's time to finally clean your own house before you shake the broom at another.

You have to keep in mind, when people blunder like that it makes themselves look far worse than it does anyone else. It just makes Farfal look bad and people will judge him by what he said.

Gazeta Polska is a mouthpiece of PiS. Farfal fired many people closely related to this party, so now they try to discredit him by all means. They provided no evidence to back their claims, so there is nothing to discuss. This is political explanation, I'm not going to waste my time with Harry.

I was born in Australia but as I have already stated on this forum my having Australian citizenship is purely an accident of birth, I do not describe myself as Australian. Did you choose the nation of your birth?

First, personal insults is your forte for sure.

Which would explain why you make no attempt to debate the topic at hand but instead throw out ad homs in the hope of getting a responce. No luck here.

They provided no evidence to back their claims, so there is nothing to discuss.

So no doubt your favourite racist TV president will sue them. Or not. We shall see.

Of course. Why would I make an attempt to debate an issue with someone who doesn't understand the concept of a debate and for lack of arguments resorts to personal attacks?

“Those monkeys cannot do anything”

“I knew those black monkeys were losers”

so was it "monkeys" or "black monkeys"?
the first one, while being offensive, isn't racial at all, you can hear it addressed to Polish people by other Polish people (ty małpo), just like any other similar insult with animals names (ty świnio - you swine - being the most popular, but also "głupia krowa" - "stupid cow" etc.)
isthatu2 4 | 2,694
5 May 2009 /  #19
Speaking as a " Northern Monkey" I can see where Krzysztof is coming from with the question but lets face it,when your talking about a black guy on what is probably a fairly primitive TV station(has anyone seen Nigerian TV?) by western standards then its probably safe to assume that if he did use the term Monkey it sure as s*** was meant as a rascist remark considering the long history of equating dark skin and african heratage with simians.

The question is though,as stupid and offensive to some as his remarks were, were they said in private,if so,is this not a prime example of the new Thought Crime? A private remark, said off camera was enough to get Maggie Thatchers daughter fired from the BBC,I may hate her mum but Carol seemed a nice enough bird and are thoughts or throw away comments more important than ones actions?

Court will decide who has best legal team/most money.......
Did he say this in Public, did he go on Polish TV and call Black people monkeys? If these rascist veiws do harm to a country who is responsable for this, the person who may or may not have said this in private or the person who decides to make it public? Of course this only works for thought crimes, other "whistle blowers" are an exception and normaly positive. Is this man in his day to day working life on a Polish TV station really going to affect the working lives or employment prospects of many/any people of African descent? It would be different in a more "multicultural " sociaty but in a 99% white one, whats the biggie?

Supposedly Farfal said it while having dinner with all of them so, it could have far reaching ramifications if it's true. It's, like, an international scene. Dig? Not just Poland.

Is this man in his day to day working life on a Polish TV station really going to affect the working lives or employment prospects of many/any people of African descent?

Well, there's all these promotional people at the dinner and it involved people from other countries and it took place somewhere in Africa, so, if he really did say it, bad judgment on his part. He says he didn't say it so who knows where the truth lies?

Ok ,in his case,Guilty as charged then, still interested if people think there is a difference between private thoughts and words and public deeds and actions though?

Im sure people will either cry rascist or hypocrite when I say that, even though as people may know Im one of the first to call out bigots on this forum of course Im only human and in private occasionally have moments of bigotry myself,ie,cut up by a driver,if he's white he's a "stupid c**t!",if I spot he's black or asian say he's a "stupid black/asian c**t!" . Am I and the many people Im sure are like me as "bad" as those who spout garbage in public and do those people really deep down believe they are from a "superior race" or like me do they moments after an irational bigoted thought or word regret their stupidity? And I mean in private, not regreting being caught just regreting the thought?

Sorry if thats a bit deep, just interested.

No one knows for sure if Farfal said racist remarks or is getting framed by Gazeta Polska for firing people. So, he's not actually guilty until they can produce witnesses who attended the dinner and can confirm he said them.

It seems more often than not people take it personally, even if it is not meant to be personal. It's considered worse when someone who has a lot of influence says it, they get more attention. People don't like to see themselves slurred on television or in print.

If an important person, such as a politician, slurs someone publically there's always a lot of reaction.

What do you wish me to say,he is a rascist and an idiot, well ,of course he is. Or do you wish me to say something due to the fact that by accident of birth I was born in the same group of islands as him?

HatefulBunch397

Exactly,If its "Public" and is likely to cause distress or hurt to a specific, present target group then yes, its wrong,no doubt,

But if it is a privatly held view that ,to the most part, will not affect anyone out side of a small group of probably like minded friends is it anyones right to become the arbiter of private views?

The other side is,and this is my personal feelings, when it is no longer deemed acceptable for blacks to use terms like honky or cracker, normally for "laughs" in American films or movies, then the black community may once again have some moral high ground, untill then lets just call it a rather nasty and un hippyish kind of equality where all are free to be as ignorent and plain dumb as they wish so long as it doesnt physicaly hurt others,ie incitment to do harm.

I agree because people are always going to have their opinions but these public figures should know if they say something controversial they will get the muchly publicized responses. Surely, they must be self aware enough to realize that? Which makes me wonder if Farfal did, in fact, say anything or is just getting framed.

He would have to convince the Israeli government to let him emigrate. Is it easy for a non jew to emigrate to Israel? I've always wondered about that because Israel has the law of return but what about people who want to live there but do not meet the criteria?
