well stome the crows they should have researched that one a bit better

The thought was there though, the Spitfire was British, just not the crewe on that squaud.

whilst there were quite a few squads, there were many more British and other Nationalities too that joined the RAF.

OK, let's clarify something here. Polish cavalry NEVER, I repeat NEVER attacked German tanks with swords. This scuttlebutt was a part of Nazi propaganda, and it was made up in order to discredit Polish army in the eyes of his allies.

What about this Polish movie I saw with my Polish friends when I was in Poland called "Hubal" is this Nazi propaganda too? Just asking. My friends told me it was based on historical facts.

No, that is Russian propaganda.
About as "true" as "Wizard of Oz".

Didn't they try to claim that they knew the squadron was Polish, but still chose to use it as the Spitfire itself was British?

Either way, they didn't exactly come out of it with much credit.

Well, they didn't lie. They ment more that it still was a regular army fighting on (Even if it wasn't that big) mainly I think "Hubal" was fighting the Soviets. There was some few cavalry charges during september campaign but never on tanks. (There was inccidents were German crew thought it was a charge but it was really a retreat while beeing encircled).

Like the belts "Got mit uns" yeah they used em

they constantly talk to each other, stop work and sit down and then when asked to actually do some work they have the cheek to say I'm lazy.

Just seen this thread but this line made me smile, my dad often ran into difficulties at work because he worked way too hard and made the English guys look lazy. I had the same problem in the UK myself.

I had a delightful class a few weeks ago where this was exactly what the guys all said when encouraged to speak English. Other comments other than "I'm lazy" were "I don't like language" and "I am bad at English so I hate it and don't speak". And they really didn't either. Alrighty then, why spend all the zl on the lessons (aka their boss or their mother has paid for them, probably).

I spent years being insulted for the name my father chose to "Anglicise" the family. Unfortunately he chose "Kraft" as it has the same first letter, so I was Margarine, Dairylea etc for years. People are generally herd animals, if you are different then you must be made to pay so if you have to be different be proudly different :)

Poles don't like Jews coming over, English don't like Poles, we don't like Mexicans... will it ever end? - sadly not, krysia ... (wish you could do two quotes in a post!)

Listen my young friend there is no better option for all of this that a good old ar** wooping, just punch who ever says that to you in the face and punch them hard, make it look like you're even crazy, let the know about Slavic brutality, our bad side, they'll s**t their pants. They will have respect for you from a mile away after that, believe me

I doubt thats likely to work penn (unless there a child) and the consequence would almost certainly be dismissal from his job and/or criminal prosecution or even the guy ending up in hospital as if its a group of people they will almost certainly defend each other.
The best thing would be to talk with your company as they have a duty by law to protect you from bullying.
Even so it still surprises me at the amount of people that seem shocked that something like this would happen, at the end of the day your in someone elses country so people are going to find you different and maybe they will hate you for it but thats something you should have realised before you came to the uk to work.

You and me have a lot in common:
I was born and raised in Poland also and live now in USA and would rather be in
Poland but my Polish husband doesn't like Poland.
I was also adopted. Please write to me so we can share our experiences.

I think it's beacause Polish people don't mind laughing at themselves. This started with the civil rights movements to keep people from joking about blacks. Most of us are stronger than that to get hurt by a joke or gestuer. A black or an arab will take it hard because they don't have the self confidence as most of us do. That's my opinion and I am 73 years old this year.---Richard Stachowski

Again, another generalisation. Many Polish people do mind laughing at themselves, some amazingly so. Again, it depends who!!

When I was younger it was the same for me, but I learned to live with it and found that if you were Italian or Greek or even German for that matter they would find something to say about them. Its a joke to most.

Does anyone have good ways to counter these kinds of jokes?

Smile, and say, 'I'm sorry that you feel that way.' Then excuse yourself, as you have things to do.

NEVER let it get to you - the world will eat you alive.

I still deal with it at times. A couple of weeks ago a guy at work came up to me, leaned in, and whispered '...polish girls....they're all sluts.'

Being 100% polish, a speaker, reader and writer of it, still retaining that as my ethnic identity in culture and all in the U.S., with half of my family still in Poland, how can I not think that this guy is a retard? Of course he pissed me off, but F him. I smiled and said what I wrote above and then went back to work.

It's not just about being polish. If you let things get to you, then life will be tough. You need to develop some thick skin, witty comebacks, etc., to deal with life. You can't explode in these situations.

Every person, no matter what country he/she is from, has to deal with some kind of insults. Ignore it when you are dealing with a thick head, and only make the effort to challenge someone who will listen.

The best way to defeat the insults is to live a better life than the one doing the insulting! Chin up! :)

The Origin of Polish jokes (subhuman intelligence jokes) came from Hollywood which imported it from Nazi propaganda.

I grew up with Polish jokes. (I am of Polish descent) It got to the point they became funny. It was easy to put another race in the joke and find them laughable. I can't for the life of me understand why I can't say the word N****R in this country but someone can say a joke about poles and get a good laugh. Ignorance. Substitute your favorite word for polack. And do not take it personally, most of the people in the world do not know that the Second voyage of the English Mayflower to America brought Poles to build the Pilgrams homes because the English did not know how. Our big mistake.
