I encourage everyone to not patronize Warner Brothers, 'Land of the Lost' film, where Will Farrel disparages Poles. I'm shocked that the film was allowed to be placed on the market. Listen closely to the remarks Farrel makes in reference to Poles.

I've never seen the film, but have seen the original television series. The film didn't do that well in theatres.

I just clicked the link. I can't believe what they did to this show...which was originally for kids. They gave it a "PG-13" rating and sleazebagged it up. Yes. Avoid it!

Sounds far fetched - are you sure that's what he said?

And if so, is it about Poles the nationality or poles the long pieces of wood?

It's just a tasteless joke at the beginning of the film. The entire film sounds so commercial and the true fans of Land Of The Lost the series are getting ripped off. It sounds like they were trying to do the same thing they did with The Brady Bunch. Make the movies really raunchy while the television shows were these benign productions.
The jokes in Land of the Lost are most likely, completely witless humor designed to make a Neanderthal laugh.

Mate, such jokes affect if one is promoted, one's salary, a child's self image, etc. Don't kid yourself about the damage such 'jokes' do. They alter the pysche and attitude of people. I've experienced the effects of such jokes in places you wouldn't expect.

Get serious. His statement was something like 'these guys are dumber than Polacks, and that's pretty dumb'. Get a DVD and see the movie yourself.

Yeah, rise a fuss...that will alert a lot of people to polish jokes (and will lead to alot more polish jokes cracked, now especially about their humourlessness)...but don't let that stop you! rolls eyes

It's how blacks and jews got Hollywood to listen...make a huge fuss over the black face and cheap shots by comedians. I suggest the Polish community make as big a fuss as possible or Hollywood will get the message it's okay to pick on the Polish...but no one else. Even fat people are getting picked on less and less.

Or is it because there is no one with clout that can squash such defamation? That can destroy a career? Remember how Bill Mohr was taken off TV when he mocked the bravery of American pilots' bombing Iraq from 5 miles high? Remember the comedian who 'joked' about a kid named Chad Green who had died from a disease I believe and found his career stunted? Maybe you're right. Maybe the public has voiced it's opinion by not going to the film. But is this just because it was a bad film. I don't know. Will any objection cause more jokes: I don't know. It's sad to see such a film go overseas, which it has. In my opinion it doesn't reflect well on the US. Perhaps you're right, perhaps nothing should be done. Perhaps an unspoken, national maturity has occurred. Foreign perception sees the US film ability in a bad light. Much of the world already takes a dim view of American humor anyway. This film only adds to the dim view. Maybe it is best that nothing be done.

Whee, no doubt 5th generation Polish-Americans will be getting offended on behalf of the motherland (while not speaking Polish and having never been to Poland) - meanwhile, ordinary Poles will just laugh and move on.
