Forgive me if i'm wrong on this, but my Polish Father-in-law told me last night that if I was to erect a wind turbine to make my home off-grid, I would be technically breaking the law.

I'm an English ex-pat and I have just built a house for me and my polish wife in poland, and I have been planning to setup a wind turbine and maybe latter add solar panels to my home, as I like the idea of going green, and saving money at the same time.

He told me that I would first have to "give" the generated electricity back to the national grid, and then "buy" it back off the electricity company. He went on to say that the wind is not a free for all, you must pay for this. I asked him well if thats true, is it the same for solar panel? he told me no as the Sun is "free"

To be honest I was totally shocked by what I heard, and it set my mind thinking to whether Poland has any interest in changing it's enviromental footprint, as I have yet to see anything that makes me think other wise.

I don't think he is correct. Up to 50 kW you don't deal with elect. companies. With a large mill you sell the enrgy to the company.

Have your wife help you with this article as it is what you are looking for. There is some good financing for your project.

Maybe you can give us an update when you sort things out. Patience, understanding of the bizzarre, and steel nerves are key in this fair country. Good luck, mate.
