Bishop Pieronek claims that after beatification the heart of JP2 may be in Wawel. etc.

but it seems most poles are for jp2's body to be buried in one piece in the ground in accordance with his wishes. no heart in pl, no body on display.

Yes, it's been over 3 years since he died but he I feel that Poles are letting his memory slip away. This guy was a figurehead like no other here. Scots know not to forget past legends and heroes.

People won't forget him quickly. Though it's worth remembering that he left a last will and testament making it very clear that his body was not to be mucked about with and that he wanted to be buried in the Vatican. In one piece. His wishes should be respected.

I had great respect for him. I think he should of been buried in Poland.

He should have, I agree. I'm not sure that there is a suitable cemetery of sufficient stature for him in Wadowice but it would have been symbolic. He was born there after all. The man was so instrumental :)

Agreed seanus and Fred Chopid what a wounderful inspiring and good person he was. He should be buried next to his Parents it was were is was from.

Nice thought, but he made it crystal clear that he didn't want to be buried in PL. What's more important, his wishes or those of others?

I am just a normal, humble person, but if I state that I wish to be buried in a particular place (within reason), would it be normal for anyone else to go against my wishes and put my remains somewhere else, even if for "good" reasons? Surely this should be the same, no matter who is concerned, great leader or village idiot alike.

JP2 stated his wishes. They should be fulfilled.

Precisely, Osioł. This is the whole point of wills and respects the rights and wishes of those who have made informed decisions during their lifetime. To do otherwise may open Pandora's Box and have multiple competing interests attempt to determine things which have already been determined.
