In naming a tulip after the First Lady of Poland we are, furthermore, in a symbolic way, able to highlight the excellent Dutch-Polish relations. She is the first Polish personality to receive this honour.

The Maria Kaczynska tulip, a new Dutch bread of the flower named after the Polish president's wife, has been presented to the First Lady at a ceremony honoring Polish participants of paralympics.

In my opinion Poland should listen tradional friends or neutral countries. Not enemies when it comes to political choices.

Poles have some Dutch blood and Holland was rather ok when it comes to Polish - Duch history...

True politician don't believe in any friendships between states and doubt whether some are really neutral He listen to others only if their advices consider to be logical and useful for his state.

The case with Kaczynska belong to diplomatic trivialities.

Of course, but Poland should think what others have to say and where is potential. In my opinion we share some similar views with Holland. Of course there is reason why they have choosen Kaczyńska and when we look on Hollands activity in diplomacy there is no doubt about intentions.

Yes it is small gesture but very interesting.

I don't really like when people who have not any worth for Poland are decorated. I understand that this is some kind of diplomatic BS. However prestige of such award is none.

Do you suggest that she was decorated because this feminist event that she was involved? That would be interference in our domestic issues.

In my opinion it is not about feminism. ;)

In my opinion so many times Poland has been speaking on international arena like Dutch that this is very nice gesture.

A nice gesture, and Poland and Holland have good commercial links, but worth remembering that most EU leaders' wives get a tulip or a rose at some point. The decision to name a flower usually comes from the nursery who bred it, and they have a sharp eye for marketing.

If the Dutch Embassy in Poland came up with the idea (there's also a Cherie Blair, a Norma Major, an Audrey Callaghan and a Mary Wilson Tulip, they are acting in the traditional way to countries they have a long relationship with. Nice idea though.

Commercial links are very good on differend fields.

We cooperate on different fields and after thousends stories on this forum about Serbia. It is nice example.

I agree. A cactus suits her better.

By the way, whatever happened to her plastic bag she carried as a lunch bag for her husband? LOL

Our first couple is a joke on the political arena, unfortunately...

Holland does not cultivate cacti, but

Nothing wrong with have a cactus named after you. It's a tough plant that manages to live in a hostile environment with very little resources.
