Why not? My family sacreficed what they had for the freedom of their country and many other noblemen did the same thing. (I look down upon people who are not patriotic since it's proved that peasents also did fight for their country)

Talking about French aristocracy - I remember that old song, sung by
the people of France some 200 years ago...

Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira
les aristocrates à la lanterne!
Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira
les aristocrates on les pendra!

Edith Piaf sang it in "Si Versailles m'était conté":

They must have done something wrong, those noble aristocrats,
to pi*s people off that much LOL

With the British of course, we can never really forgive them. That is despite the fact that they speak a wonderful language, and could probably make any language sound great.

You misunderstood me, the essence of Polish noblemen is to confront unpatriotic persons not peasents :)
I got to admit that many noblemen have different view on peasents then others

If I would be a king of France at that time, it would be 'nice' massacre!

Only one question left, what is really patriotic and what is not?

here you have list of Polish coat of Arms :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Polish_Coats_of_Arms

Take anny coat of arm ... for example :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Na³êcz_Coat_of_Arms

and check one of names listed on the right side, lets take Baczkowski:

http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/baczkowski.html

You have 258 people with this name which has noble origin ...

Most Polish nobility mixed with population ... and simple durring communism this people haven't been murdered like in most other communistic countries. Most of them are simple citizens - and noble origin is just curiosity.

There were some who left Poland as well as many who didn't.

Right at the top of the nobility is monarchy. There are many drama queens on this forum, but most couldn't be classified as noble.

I wish people wouldn't make such flipant remarks, FYI Lexi there are more people in the UK that like the French than like the minorities you like! FYI Lexi there are 1,000's of ex-pats who have been living in France for years and we are still moving to France in our droves, so much for not liking the French! Oh just in case you didn't know French is the most popular language taken by GCSE students in England.

I never said I did not like the French, if you quote something of this nature please have the evidence to back it up. There is a huge difference between unforgiving and disliking something.

The majority of ex-pats live in France for the weather and the wine and very little else. Half of them don't even speak the French language, or they murder it.

The reason why French is "obligratory" in schools, is quite simple without it you cannot get into some of the best universities in the uk.

Mr Grunwald:
Patriotic= Love your country
Unpatriotic = not loving your country

This only works if one's country is a "fatherland" if one's country is a "motherland" then logically one would have to be matriotic.

In English, being non-person nouns, countries are usually rendered as neuter, but like boats and other vessels, they can be referred to in the feminine. Also, Britannia is feminine. Polska is feminine. La France is feminine. So instantly most posters on this thread should find patriotism an impossibility.

She's living in a dream land! (that was polite shelley for "she's talking bollox) Next she'll be telling us that Latin is obligatory to get into Oxford or Cambridge!

I still don't get what you are going on about, do you think that most English people are still hung up about the Norman invasion? I expect you think that we'd like to stand on Senlac Hill and have a re-match? PMSL!

Latin is not obligatory to get into Oxford or Cambridge, although it would help. French however is.

Points of Order Mr. Speaker, errm Mr. Speaker are you there?

French is not obligatory in English schools. A modern langauage is. My lads all chose Spanish cos it's easier. Ergo it is not required to enter univeristy here, unless of course you want to study French.
