Hmmm....there's always a demand for something banned by powers that be. I see a black market in Che Guevara t-shirts....travellers smuggling them into Poland, like issues of Playboy in the old days.

This is wrong way, government should not stick its nose everywhere. Honestly, knowing ideological background of European establishment you could expect from them banning people who dislike Che. This is dangerous trend and very likely will turn ugly someday.

Beside of that such T-shirts are not that bad. When I spot such person I already know that an idiot is walking in front of me. You are immediately informed who you may deal with . If this is your employee then you already know who do you need to get rid during the first opportunity.

It shouldn't be banned. I remember asking someone if they knew whose face it was on their tee-shirt. "I think it's the bloke out of Rage Against the Machine."

The people who are wearing these tee shirts are hardly dangerous terrorists , mostly students and hippies , not the kind of people who are going to have an explosive belt under their Lenin tee shirt...!

What next...? are they gonna start arresting kids with a telitubbies tee shirt on.....?

I think there are too many people in the Polish government with not enough to do.....

I don't think censuring the public's use of images is the way forward... that sounds like something a dictator would do... it's just an image... most people who wear it do it cause they think it's a cool image... I had a Che t-shirt for years before I knew who he was!

Next they will be banning anything that goes against Catholicism, then anything which goes against the image of the family, then anything which the government just doesn't like...

Kinda backwards, no?

Can you imagine Cuba ban Jaruzelski image for counter-measures?

Bingo...

I am in total agreement with McCoy's assessment of Che Guevara but there is no better way of identifying an idiot than one that self advertises.

They should. Dangerous liberal thinking reactionary creatures that live in a hole in the ground and carry handbags are not to be encouraged.

How come Che has not been replaced on t-shirts by a more modern iconic figure anyway?

True. What about a Dear Leader NK t-shirt for the pinkos and maybe a Pol Pot says burn your books t for budding mass murderers?

Screw that. I'm off down the t-shirt shop tomorrow to get a shirt printed. It'll have pictures of Walesa, Che, Kaczynski and Twinkie Winkie under the slogan "Great leaders of our time". Let's see the police arrest me for wearing a picture of the President of Poland!

But there are such shirts already. There's the ironic Commie-chic which has been going on for a while. A local restuarant has pictures of Bierut and Gomulka on the wall and one place used to be all decked out in Commie regalia.

Well Giertych tried that with school literature a couple of years ago.

were they the ones who locked up children in insane asylums simply for being half german?

Brings in the western tourists though. Love the place in Prague,Museum of communism beside MacDs...Lets face it,you guys who had to live under communism were always obbsesed by the "other" way of life and politics we had in the west, well, likewise,if you were disafected by western norms or politics back then you took an interest in the other way,ie,human nature says the grass is always greener, even when it quite plainly wasnt or isnt.

A lot of the places I've seen it in in Poland were actually catering for the locals. There are calendars of old commy posters and videos of PRL propaganda films available in EMPIK, hardly a predominantly tourist outlet.

Funny thing about the West is it's OK to say you were a commie in your youth and have a picture/bust of Stalin but not to say you were a member of the Facist Party and have one of Hitler.
