Polish/Croatian Relations

Mind u the following is just my personal experience, so take for what its worth: Croatian seemed a bit more reserved than Poles. My first impression was negative because the border guard who looked at my passport rolled his eyes when he saw it was from Poland, and kind of threw it back at me with a measure of disgust. In Dubrovnik, locals seemed a bit sick of the tourists in general, me of course being one of them. One of many. Obviously too many. One guy at a fruit stall asked me where I was from as he was loading his goods into a bag. I said Poland and he gave me a wide smile and started waxing poetically about Poland and the heyday of Poland's football team and how great they used to be. He ended by saying "Polska-good people!" The couple running the B-B where I stayed were nice enough, although I got the feeling they were weary of another Pole who may or may not steal the towels. But that was Dubrovnik, an anthill of tourists, and stories of pillaging Poles who steal the towels are legendary in here in Poland, making me doubt it was my imagination or paranoia. Pretty girls and great food. Croatia visibly has a good infrastructure and it seems unlikely that they would be in any way a drain on the EU. End of report.

How are Polish/Croatian relations? Is there any negativity between the 2 nations? My general idea is that we are good and that they are our most prominent? ally in southern europe with us trying to add them to European Union. Also I see more language similarities between us and them more than other balkan nations ALSO that we are both roman catholic predominant. Thanks.

From what you have write, I understand that despite both countries common Catholicism, Poland run hostile policy towards Croatia. Shame on us!

Croatia had tenths thousands men in partisans where they fought fully four years against axis forces.From 1941 till 1945. The chief of yougoslaw partisans was Croat, Josip Broz Tito. Before WWII Croatia had nothing. After WWII Croatia had got their own republic within Yougoslav federation. What I know about Poland history is that Poland resisted 4 weeks 1939 and that was all in sixt year. Before WWII Poland had 370 000 km2 and after 313 000 km2. And who is here war winner and who is war losser. I don’t know could I say ‘Welcome to Dalmatian cost’ if you have such opinion about us.

After WWII Croatia had got their own republic within Yougoslav federation. well this is just stupid my fellow countryman.we had nothing?we have been in various versions of yougoslavia for 900 years since the death of our last king,fecking blood ties.so we had serbs in yougoslavia,and hungarians and austrians in austro-hungary.turks have taken most of our land now belonging to bosnia and serbia.same crappp. so we survived.now when i'm free,nobody will take this from me.my grandfathers were in chains for long,and now i'm living their dream of free Croatia. so since 1990 we are free man,not after ww2 as you said. but of course,better yougoslavia than nazi puppet state.so yougoslavia was just a last step to freedom

el Croata: I don’t deny that some part of Croatian people was in SS during WWII. Also as France, Norvege, Danmark, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Lithuania, Ukraina, Estonia, Latvija, Finland , Italy, Romania, Bulgaria., well that's a sad story.people didn't choose what army they wanted to fight for.recruiting sargeant would come for you with two armed guards and told you to join the army(partisans or ustashis). so i had one grandfather was in ustashis axis,another in allied partisans.and neither one killed anyone,because they didn't have a clue why they should shoot their own people. divide and conquer tactics. but we are no longer divided.

Let's say half-free. But I hate when some Czech, Slovak, Pole are talking to me that crap about SS. All together that three nations had killed almost 100 axis soldier in all WWII. Croatian partisan, together with serbs partisan , bosniak partisan, Macedonian partisan, ,Slovenian partisan had liberated alone their country. I don’t deny that some part of Croatian people was in SS during WWII. We Croats saying ‘Na muci se poznaju junaci’, (only in deep trouble you know who is your really friends) We had deep troubles in 1990’s and we found who is really allies, Germany, Austria and Hungary. And one Pole. But he didnt't belong to Poland.

el Croata: What I know about Poland history is that Poland resisted 4 weeks 1939 and that was all in sixt year. el Croata: All together that three nations had killed almost 100 axis soldier in all WWII. You get all upset about people not knowing fully the complicated history of Croats fighting together with Germans and those fighting against, yet you present some ridiculous "facts" about other countries history.

Does dwelling on the past really help anyone to make a better future? It seems that if you can be so busy fighting over the past, you can ignore the positive things you could be doing instead to make the future a better place.

Big chunk of my life I lived in Dubrovnik and I know situation there from first hand. Before Serbian aggression 1991, Dubrovnik was awesome touristic place with millions tourists. After war, Dubrovnik was empty city, without tourism, almost all decade, till 2000’s. After 2000, It slowly recovering and now is nearly pre-war situation. Because that Dubrovnik respecting every single tourist from all of the world (except Serbia, of course ) I heard, not only from Poles but also Czechs and Slovacs, that when they come to Croatia they have feeling that locals watch them like thieves. I don’t know from where this feeling come when we in Croatia respect all tourist because tourism is our great financial well. I recommend these people with such feeling at some psychiatric session with discussion point ‘Why am I thinking that I am thief’

All I see are that Croats seem more primitive than the Serbs who they constantly accuse.At least the Serbs do not speak bad of Poles,Czechs,etc.
