Just found this article on Yahoo news ..... well it made me laugh :o)

A Polish driver who was too sure of his GPS road navigation device ended up neck-deep in a lake after ignoring road signs warning of a dead-end ahead, Polish police said Friday.

What is the deal with all of the people following a GPS into bad spots? Don't they look out the windshield?

It would be funny if it happened once in a blue moon but it is so common. Jesus.

Seanus, it was on the news today. It's just that this type of thing seems to happen quite often.

Aha, I stand corrected. He was trying to follow in the footsteps of others then? LOL

I bet he got that sinking feeling :)

I don't understand the significance of the driver being Polish, or any other nationality for that matter. I've almost had some tricky situations here in Poland because of my GPS, thankfully, I do look at the signs and exercise some common sense when it tells me to turn up somebody's driveway or into a field!

Though, this wasn't the case when it told me to turn off a main road when driving from Krakow to Gorzow and I ended up driving around a disused WW2 airfield! I just wish I'd marked where it was to go back another time for a decent look. I suspect Poland is full of these historical gems that are just begging to be photographed and documented.

The story is amusing not because the driver was Polish, but because of what happened. When the story was on the Polish news, many of those involved in the rescue were having a little chuckle.

I understand, but the press in the UK always seem to like adding the nationality of the people as if it's significant. I guess it's a media thing with their "3 ways to describe something" training.

Still yeah, it is a bit funny and I've almost come-a-cropper a few times myself with my GPS. Everytime I drive through Tczew it confidently instructs me 'turn right' when I am driving over a bridge; the road it wants me to turn on is some 20 meters below me! Thankfully, when I turn on my GPS, I don't turn off my eyes and common sense.

My friend Ella had a strange experiance in that area...she is a pilot in Polish air force....she said whilst trying to land at her base some looney drove across the runway..! they sent armed patrols after the driver , but he got away....

not guilty! :) This one was certainly disused, unless the Polish airfields are as in the same poor conidtion as their roads. But there was no air traffic or sign of life in general.

quite possible....have you noticed that Russian aircraft have much stronger undercarrige than the western stuff , and the engines are mounted quite high up on the body of the aircraft...its due to the condition of the runways in eastern Europe , they just can,t make concrete that stays in one piece....As for the guy driving accross the runway...i was just teasing you...!

:D I guessed as much, but couldn't resist taking it farther :) (or is that further? - oh bloody hell, another one I better look up before a student asks and I'm dealt another serving of egg ont he face!)

As for the hole, I believe they are still looking into it (sorry, couldn't help myself)

Lol it's funny! Like in Chicago last year a woman followed her GPS on top the Rail Road tracks and got her car stuck. Some people just don't know how to use GPS and get lost with them!!

You get the feeling people are depending too much on technology, rather than good old, tried and tested, common sence.

"Robert Jones , South Yorkshire, said he trusted his navigational system and continued to follow it when it told him the steep, narrow footpath he was driving on was a road."

The annoying thing about satnav is that it always seems to go wrong when you need it most (approaching that junction you're not sure about) or it takes ages to warm up when you are in a hurry.

Yep. satnag.

"For God's sake I told you to turn left at the last junction, Do you know how much fuel you will waste getting back on track now? It's not the first time you've ignored me. When will you learn you useless pillock?"
