do you like Warhammer?

I played it a couple of times. Then I stopped, because I realized that the rat-people, Skaven, are supposed to be us, living between the Empire of pure nights and Kislev.

Cheeky idea, that!

I do, I've been an RPG nerd for some time : ) From what I know Kislevites are based on eastern europe, ideas for different units were taken from different slavic nations. For example Kislev cavalery looks exactly like Polish hussar cavalery..

It's nice to see our English friends took a look at our historical military unit :) I found a picture of Kislev Winged Cavalery from Warhammer Fantasy Battles tabletop game:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kislev_(Warhammer)

...
In the Warhammer Fantasy setting, Kislev is the name of a Slavic/Kieven Rus-themed fictional country that sits northeast of The Empire, between it and the Realm of Chaos. Between Kislev and Norsca lies Troll Country, while beyond that lie the magic-tainted Chaos Wastes. Because of both the harsh weather and the fact that any Chaos incursions must pass through (and, consequently, attack) the country, the Kislevites are a hardy people who are never willing to back down from a fight. The capital of Kislev is Kislev, with Erengrad and Praag being the next largest and important cities. Kislev is primarily inspired by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Russia of the 16th and 17th centuries, with its name derived from the city of Kiev.

They are most famed for their horseback archery skills, and are ruled by Tzarina Katarin who is the most powerful magician Queen who has ever lived because of her mastery of the power Ice magic....

I just googled their online stores, 3 toy soldiers for 8 pounds! WTF? They charge for a piece of plastic like its gold and it seems popular!

There are also themes inspired by Chech taborites and Tatars. :)

Ksysia was talking about RPG game Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay - it's a storytelling game and the only thing you need to play are Rulebooks and some dice. The thing you googled is Warhammer Fantasy Battles - which is a strategy game that you play with units of minatures. There are plastic units that are cheaper - 20 minatures per unit. And metal ones that are supposed to be heroes and special characters - they are really expensive.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Warhammer Fantasy Battles take place in the same "world" but have a totally different gameplay and rules.

I used to play Dungeons and Dragons back when i was a student but then we all got drunk and roleplayed gangbanging one of our roommates elf, she'd get mad at us and leave and then it just got worse by the beer.

Well whoever came up with that is a freaking marketing genius, people really seem to spend a fortune of that stuff.

hehe, good all RPG games, it sometimes ended similarly when I was playing. If we wanted to play seriously we had to leave the % out ;)
D&D is a good RPG system, in comparison to Warhammer Fantasy RP it's more throwing dice and counting statistics. Warhammer is also pretty "anti-heroic", where in D&D each person has a powerful heroe like character in Warhammer you could be a wagoner or a grave digger, and the only spell that magician is able to cast is delousing ;)

... that has to be us! Thank you, BB! I can play it again, then ;) I thought that Kislev is representing Muscovy the best.

So all the Slavic countries are mingled into one, with a Russian monarch? ...ugh, anything but that ;)

The Changelling was my favourite for a while, and 'De Profundis'.

Are talking about the White Wolf thingie? I really like Vampire: The Masquerade, D&D is also ok but I found Warhammer superior in that it is not so power characters based. I prefer storytelling games than those in which you need to throw dice around whenever you try to do something.

For post apocaliptic mood - polish Neuroshima is pretty decent.

Nun jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....

....
The religion of the Empire is polytheistic, with the god Sigmar being the most important. Sigmar is exalted, having been a powerful warlord who unified various tribes to form the Empire. ...

Well, call it as you want ; ) Of course a medieval themed game won't be based on modern Germany ; )
I'd say it's a mix of western european countries except from UK which is Bretonnia. There are some Scandinavian traits too.

Yeah, I guessed that much... Holy knights of Marienburg (Malbork). In reality they were not so holy, but very fierce and good organizers... They've built all those red brick buildeings everywhere, sadly, and we can't tear them down because they are vintage...

frd:
UK which is Bretonnia.

Ok - I can't see France in that case.

Why would you want to tear it down???

Maybe you haven't played enough Warhammer to notice :) or maybe some elements were used only in table top strategy version. I'm not sure, but I think French elements are visible in Bretonnia :)

And you haven't answered my previous question, this The Changelling I googled it, and it seems it's White Wolf's child. Can you recommend it? Or any other RPG by any chance.

Never, we should maintain any kind of inheritance wherever it is.. I personally love medieval architecture, castles and castle ruins.. and it's a blast to play an RPG game at such a place. I was once playing a game in castle ruins with candles and it was a blast :)

I wouldn't! But I would put some plaster on it and some ornaments... ;) I would like it to have been built by the Poles, you see - hence the lame humour.

As a tourist attraction it's great, I've been a couple of times as well.

I'm sorry - yes, Changeling belongs to the world of Darkness, I like it better than the Vampire, the Werewolf and the Mage, because there's less suffering involved and more fiddling with imagination. For example, a very strong character would be a little girl in pink pyjamas. 'Don't look behind you, or the Pink Jaws will eat you!' And who wouldn't look back?

Uh-huh, Płowce and Brześć are the Westernmost border, and incidentally that were Polands eastern lands at times. So It's as I thought. Kislev is Russia, Skavens are us.

Not everything is based on Europe :P
Skavens are creatures who lives underground and together with Orks they plunder Dwarfs all the time. Can't resemble Skavans as Poles sorry :P

Skavans&Orks underground creatures really. orks may somehow be at above the ground but Skavens definatly underground creatures.

Also Kislev is a mix of Poland, Lithuania, Kossacks and Russia
It's a vague part of Polish colture there mostly dominated by kossacks and Russia. But as I have seen Kislev isn't portraited as an army yet. So if you want it to be more Polish it is still Possible since it's not that worked out like Dwarfs for instance.

They don't have much of an army really.
Just Kossacks, Horse archers Winged Hussars gryphs. Like NO INFANTRY?! Come on! There got to be some possiblilty to put some Batory infantry and not Kossacks marching! ;)

Red bricks are ugly. Period.
But they also pose a problem. Tourists who have seen the Malbork built by the Teutonic Order, then go to see the castle of Pieskowa Skała, and ask was it built by the Order. No, we actually have built something here.

I am Polish, a typical Polish mongrel of many a bloodline. I'm only missing Hungarian. I've got a crest, a passport, a driving license, and Great-Grandfather's clock and I don't have to explain myself. Better?

Sokrates:

Am I speaking in riddles here? Skaven seem to get all our negative traits, while Kislev receives all the things that are admired - the hussars et c. How were we portrayed during the war, I ask you? Drunkard thieves who scheme a lot, not?

Grunwald we are here mainly discussing RPG games, not minature strategy games. Anyways there are Kislev foot troops in Fantasy Battles.. at least I've seen some minatures..

Stop being ironic, we are from Kislev, period : p You can be a skaven living in Kislev if you really want to ; ) And I'd say Sylvanian vampires are more dodgy types than scheming Skaven : p

lol, i do hope your joking and not actually getting worked up about a computer game :):)

I mean imagine how the Germans feel everytime a new WWII game gets released 'here we go again, getting shot at for being nazi's' lol. I've always wondered what it would be like shooting at AI Brits, i don't know if i could do it, Nazi's now thats easy, even the Japs too. Ow i think i've also played an updated Call of Duty??? where you shoot Russians, i'm down with that too but i don't think i could shoot Aussies, Polaks, etc etc.
