there might be some extra shifts over the holidays, depends what sort of work you're after. i think you'd be better off looking for a job in the summer, unless you have some friends here who can help you out. you can always sign up with an agency, but make sure it's not one of them scams where they take a lump sum of money from you and leave you stranded in a foreign country.

moreover you'll get a really cheap flight ticket if you book it early (like 70zlotys there and back)

70PLN there and back? Hmm...maybe 70PLN there but not a return unless you stumble across a good deal.

I found few Ryanair/Wizzair flights there and back 70PLN some time ago, moreover if you are really really lucky and you follow last minute promotions you can get a ticket at a bargain price, my friend paid around 30zl, it was more expensive for him to get to Wroclaw's airport from Zabrze ; )

You must be joking, that wouldn't even cover the landing taxes on a one-way flight these days.

Not always; my last flight was cheaper by buying two singles!

The best time to look for a job would be in the summer.
If you get a seasonal job in a hotel you may also get staff accomodation too.

Best to contact a hotel well in advance. You can find a list of hotels in Scotland here.

Why when someone hears that a polish person wants to work in the UK do they immediately assume they want to work in a supermarket or in the hospitality industry?

as for when the best time to find work is it depends what you want to do the job market is quite tight at the moment with half decent jobs few and far between.

Probably the summer as others said although it depends where about in the UK you are intending on going.

You'll probably get work over the Christmas/New Year period in a lot of places, like Justanya says Christmas temps but not just in retail. The Post Office take on Christmas staff for example.

If you're coming from Poland to the UK you might want to secure something before you arrive because a lot of places are NOT taking on extra staff while they fight the recession.

If you have a specific city/town you're heading for people might be able to give you more help.

Good luck and enjoy your time in the UK. :)

I think that you will find that it's more difficult to find a job in a recession more than being a woman wanting a job. That shouldn't have too much to do with it.

It depends what you want to do and where as to how many jobs are around.

If your english is good then stores, such as Argos, Poundland,Lidl and Tesco's have a large turnover of staff during the christmas period. The Polish tend to shop at good value stores so your experience of speaking both languages will prove useful to some stores. The best advice is ....go for it! and be proactive, visit places in person if possible, and all the best with your search.

Working in Argos over Christmas !!!!!!

All those screeching chav women in their trackies buying gold sovereign rings for their knuckles scraping the floor boyfriends !!!!!!

There has to be somewhere better to work over Christmas than Argos, Poundland and so on.

If that is all that is on offer, however, choose your town/city very carefully and don't work anywhere too near a council estate.

hey hi there are not many jobs due to the recession but in my opinion the best time would be between july and september..as this is the peak peroid for taking holidays because all the schools are closed for summer holidays...most polish nationals with children do travel back to poland during this peroid..best is to plan and have a short post and accomodation before leaving poland..plan ahead...your welcome to email me if you want further advice
