much have been said about the dental hygiene of british, i never really believed in it, never did i check, but recently i have come across 4 different people from 4 different places in England, and all of them had really bad teeth, they are all between 23 and 30 years old.

So is the myth true? any experiences anyone?

Usually poor people have bad teeth but not normal people. Dental car in the UK is however horrific and very very expensive compared to continental europe and waiting times for dentists are very long on the NHS.

for example i paid £70 for a filling a few years ago which fell out and cracked the tooth and it only cost me £30 to have it fixed in Poland.

Cheap for the foreigner, but expensive for the Pole.

If you compare wages, that would be the same as paying £90-120 for the same filling in the UK on average UK wages.

My last dental bill was 18 months ago, and my next one will be about £180 for two fillings (both private), X-rays, cleaning, and check-up (remainder on the NHS).

It makes me laugh when people complain that they "can't afford" dental treatment over here, when they are quite happy to spend £12 on a piece of cheese and tomato on toast.

I spent 5 years in breaces so have straight teeth didnt cost a penny as i had it done as a child. My dentist is NHS and I only pay £25 for a check-up and a polish and scale. Ive met several foreigners with rotten teeth, I also met plenty of Brits with lovely white gnashers..

I had some dental work done in the UK a few months ago.... which i just had redone in Poland.... my fillings in the UK cost £45 each and didnt last a year.... here i had then done for 100zl each in a nice dentist!, i could have had it done cheaper if i didnt want anesthetic..... (stupid question to ask me)

I had a tooth for which all was left was the 2roots.. my dentist in the UK would not do anything with it as it was not causing problems and then when i did i would have to go to the dental hospital.... in Poland 1 injection and 20min later all sorted for a reasonable 80zl with no pain what so ever!

Genrally i think British denists just can't be bothed anymore... lazy, rubish and over-priced dental work!

British denists

Most of the dentists in England are foreigners anyway in my experience.

Brits do have bad teeth, especially the older folk. Many TV personalities have crooked teeth, its like dude your on television you should sort that out.

Scotland has a bit of a mix but my last dentist there was from Malta. Eat too many Maltesers and you are off to see a Malteser, hmm...

I go to a dentist in Czestochowa. Even including air fares it's cheaper than the UK and the quality of dentistry is superb.

I'd also point out that I have far nicer teeth than my Polish other half and the myth about British people having bad teeth is just that.

Some places are renown for bad oral hygiene. They should make it a point to change things and do something about it instead of just going on with **** stained teeth like it's nothing.

It can be hard to get on the books of an NHS dentist and they often do private work too.

I'm on the NHS books so I can only have an appointment between 9-5, Monday to Friday (when most people work) and if I want an appointment outside of those times, I have to be seen privately.

Also if I just go for a check up, I don't think that they spend as long on me as they would with a private patient.

I do see some people with some pretty bad teeth though. I think it is a combination of treatment that is too expensive and poor diets.

That's so damn nasty. It creeps me out seeing people with grotesque teeth. I'm obsessed with keeping my pearly whites clean and shiny.

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

Hahaaaa.. I mean this thread is hilarious. Get 3 or 4 of those strips and put them on at the same , that will fix you up. I don't think this is genetic with the Anglo Saxon because there's a whole lot of Limey Americans and they usually don't have that bad of choppers.

Where's Porkchop at? I'm sure he'll have about 30 logical scenarios to present to everybody..

Orthodontists are not in vast supply. Does England have any orthodontists at all? That's a good question to ask...do British teenagers get braces to fix their teeth if they aren't straight, or to correct overbites? Or, is that unheard of in the UK?

Oh come on, there's nothing better from a toothless french kiss..

I think I can bring some input into this thread, my mums a dentist and she has a patient coming from UK/Ireland/Germany around twice a year. So it's not really frequent. On the other hand she told me that she knows Polish dentists that specialise in treating foreign patients and that 80% of these patients come from abroad...

From what she said she never heard of any "bad british teeth stuff" story going through the dentist circles.. on the other hand somebody who chooses to go to another country to have his teeth mended must be a person who rather cares about his teeth. On the other hand she also said there a thing going on about how Asians and Turkish people don't take care of their teeth.

There's pockets of bad teeth. Where I live happens to be one of them. Where are all the dentists in the UK? Why don't they have any?
