Hello,

Im a student at Northumbria University studying Construction Management. I am in the final year and conducting a research topic - I am looking at the impact of Migrant Workers on the UK Construction industry, i am hoping to show that Migrant workers have a positive impact on the Industry.

One aspect of my research is to look at Skills Recognition, it has been shown that Skills people acquire from abroad are not recognised here in the UK - one possibility of that is due to language skills. I am going to look at

Basically i was hoping to conduct a survey of Construction Workers (both employed and unemployed, and from different trades) to gather their thoughts on the role language skills plays in skills recognition - I was wondering if there are any Construction Workers on this forum who would be willing to participate in this survey.

(Survey is still being formulated, should be ready in a couple of weeks)

Thanks

That might have something to do with the fact that some countries don't teach these skills.
Find me a Polish brickie who knows the difference between 'stretcher bond' and 'flemish bond' and then I'll take your research seriously.
I trust that you know the difference.

Gan canny, marra.

Possibly BUT thats not what im looking at

Im looking at the role Language Skills plays in Skills Recognition - from the point of view of a migrant worker and an employer - then i shall compare and contrast the responses
