England, Dirty, Expensive and a dangerous place to live?

As we like to say it's all relative J, you're average family is suffereing and struggling in the UK...Most young couples cant get on the property ladder and more and more houses are being respossessed because of the rise in utiltiy bills, interest rates and general day to day out goings...Why do you think the average family size for an English couple has shrunk from 3 kids in the 1970's to 1 in the 2000's?

Sledge! The only place left in Baltimore that is safe is the old Polish section which we call Canton. People have inflated the price of 150 yr old homes to a price that minorities could not afford. The home that I was born in. My parents paid $2,500.00 for just sold for $635,000.00. The cops patrol the streets and follow the thugs .They call it racial profiling. FUK UM.. It works

I don't recognise this England that you refer to `Shelley. Sure there are places in England where there are issues but it is the same in most Countries. I've travelled extensively across the UK in my time although there may be one or two places I haven't been too but the majority of places are good. I live in the North West and it is a great place to live. It's not dirty, it's not that expensive <admittedly house prices are> but I remember when I bought my first home I had to scrimp and save for ages as well as taking on an extra job in order to save for a deposit. It's always been hard for first time buyers. It was in the news last week that first time buyers are struggling because there aren't enough first time properties or starter homes on the market for them to buy ! It's too easy to single out one place and then state that England is like this. It is your opinion and you are entitled to it but I can't identify with your comments. I've spent a lot of time living and working in London and it's the same as any capital City. There's places you don't wander around after dark on your own and you need to be fairly streetwise. I would expect it's the same in any capital City around the World. Moss Side has always had a reputation, but it hasn't stopped Developers from building very expensive properties on its borders...... North Manchester has it's shady areas too but then most of it is fine as well......it's like that everywhere and not just in the UK. Most people enjoy a good lifestyle in England I think compared to some countries. :)

London is principally geared towards Tourist hence more to do ... but when you've seen it once you dont need to see it again and to be honest there is things to do in other areas outside London if you know where to look and go :)

I like the nightlife, the daylife, the shopping, the fact that I can commute right out of there at the end of the day. I like London, but I'm never living there.

niejestemcapita: London's the best city in Europe..:) i would agree, i like London a lot. Yes it is dangerous and over priced and dirty but it's great!. I don't want to live there but i like to drop in for the theatre and the museums, the Brits stole so much cultural historical artefacts, the museums are very impressive. Love it or hate it, it is. And i like the cockneys, great bunch of people, who rightfully don't care about what the rest think, why would they?, they got their own stuff to deal with :)

Wroclaw: I can't see anything in ShelleyS' post/quote that could cause offense. no i looked at it and i can't see what the fuss is about either. as for surviving on £600 a month, it's hypothetically possible if you don't have a mortgage and share a flat/house. there's no chance i will ever get on the property ladder with my salary ha ha, and i'm not really tempted to because why should i work my ass for for 25 years to pay it off and then my kids get it for free! and put me in a home!! fat chance ha ha!

ShelleyS: I think so...what do you say? I think it's pretty logical to conclude that in general, big cities all over the world are usually more of a mess than all the smaller towns out there. I really don't think Manchester or London are any dirtier than Rotterdam or Amsterdam! :) ShelleyS: As for those of you who dont think England is dirty, Ive travelled enough to see how other European countries look and we are filthy in comparison and should be ashamed! I don't think so. You should check out your rural areas more often, and you'll see that most people have nothing to be ashamed of. ;)
