Although in the thread above complains are made by the British and Torny is writing the line again and again.......

Well the Brits love a good maon and i did skip over the thread recently and most of the complaints are by Brits. I think Tornado has some quoting work here to prove his point: stand by for a monumental boring ass post from him.

BritishEmpire, right enough. Still, a little taste of their own medicine is just desserts.

That would be fair enough seanus if it only affected the people of the time.
How would you feel if you had to suffer because of what your great grandfather did?.

Mine signed that pox of a treaty to divide the country. I am, indeed, suffering. ;)

You are talking about the British Empire's colonisation of other countries.
How would that be able to affect the rulers of the time?

I would agree with you but then I look at your user name.

I get your point, BE, but this is the way of the world. Generations of Americans will be paying for the folly of Bush and his cronies. Germans will seemingly always bear the brunt of what that Austrian did etc etc.

So am i just to stand by and let it all go that way, maybe that would suit you but i am not that kind of person.
After all it maybe the way of the world but that doesn't mean it has to be the way of my country and i sure will try and do something about it even if i do die trying.

so my choice of username discredits the whole argument, wow is all i can say.

Do not expect empathy/sympathy from us, if you are going to ask not to suffer for what your grandparents did, if you are going to boast about their achievements.
You can't have it both ways.

How much is it for a pack of ciggies in England (in a standard shop)? I'll never forget the story of an Englishman who went to America and asked, 'do you have any fags?'. Rumour has it that the bar regulars were in stitches.

I never asked for sympathy, i was pointing out the reality that nobody would wish to suffer because of what happened 100+ years ago, thats just stupid and would only result in the world standing still instead of learning from its mistakes and moving on.
We know it was wrong but then every country has done bad things at some point in history.

I think cigarettes are about £5.70 for 20 which is very expensive but the idea is to discourage people (tax).
Funny story though, i can just imagine it now :-D

Close mate, but I think Pakistan would be nearer to the truth. The way things are looking in 5 years time it will be quite close. Choose either Pakistan or Somalia.

Love it or loathe it, there is no denying that London is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world.. and there is a reason that tourists flock here in droves. You would have to live here to appreciate it fully, not just spend a weekend in a dodgy hotel hanging out in Leicester Square. Shelley you should be ashamed to start a thread slating your own country.

Why, because she told the truth about what the UK has turned into? The truth often hurts.

Or the fact that it has the UK's highest crime. Mind you, I may even be wrong on that one - some people choose to go on "tours" of African and South American slums, so there's no accounting for taste!

I just have to go for a stroll around the corner to find that enriching diversity.

all cities have high crime statistics, but I think there is generally more trouble in small towns to be honest... and not just in the UK. Anyway we all have different opinions, but if you havent lived somewhere then I dont think you are qualified to rate it or slate it.

If you mean have I lived in London, well yes... at ten different addresses, in eight different postcodes. I've spent a third of my life there, and much of my working life, so yes, I'm perfectly qualified to comment.
