Hello everyone!
I wanted to introduce you to this year's Fertilizer Festival which is bringing the best of Polish music to London and on tour around the UK!
This year’s Fertilizer sees us heading East – back to our old haunts in London’s East End and over to Eastern Europe to uncover the very latest underground sounds from Gdansk to Warsaw.
Following our mission to Poland last year to discover the best music bubbling under the mainstream (it’s a hard life, but someone has to…) we’ve been busy putting together our signature genre-busting mix of jazz, ambient sounds, hip hop and postrock psychedelia which should leave you in no doubt why Poland is our musical destination of the year.
And this year, there’s more good s**t than ever! We thought it only right to recognise Poland’s rich visual cultural legacy, with a selection of its best recent feature films. We’re also taking over Rich Mix from 11-17 May with a special exhibition of Sound Postcards – literally postcards that were played, at a time in Eastern Europe when vinyl was hard to come by.
There are four cracking gigs as part of our London festival. The UK and Poland get fertile together on Wednesday 13 May when Pete Wareham of Acoustic Ladyland and Gdansk prog-jazzers Pink Freud showcase a new collaboration. We’re sending Pete over to Gdansk in April so look out for his travel blog soon!
On Thursday 14 May we mix things up with a triple bill of jazz, ambient sounds and post-rock courtesy of Sing Sing Penelope, Jacaszek and Contemporary Noise Sextet.
The music hall setting of Hoxton Hall is the perfect fairytale venue for an orchestra of toy instruments, in two shows by Maly Instrumente on Saturday 16 May. And it’s back to Cargo on Sunday 17 May where we’ve matched the mellow Polish hip hop of Fisz with bonkers big band Mitch and Mitch.
We’re also very excited to be getting on the tour bus for the first time, taking our triple bill of Sing Sing Penelope, Jacaszek and Contemporary Noise Sextet to venues in Norwich, Bristol, Oxford, Liverpool and Gateshead.
