Locations of Polish food and drink places in London

inkrakow   Dec 14, 07, 13:38 /  #
I've been press ganged into doing the shopping for Christmas in London and am now looking for sources of good Polish food in/around London as I don't fancy bringing everything over on easyjet!

I've been away a while so have no idea where's good now so I'm hoping you can recommend somewhere. I'm a bit of a foodie so I'd be happy to travel for something special like good wedliny (charcuterie) or any hand made (i.e. not mass produced) products. What's good out there?

Among the Polish communities. But I'm not sure where they are in London...

I live in Guildford, which is not so very far from London. It all depends of course, on what you consider as 'good food' and choice. Sometimes we go by car to Ravenscourt and park for free on the street. You can do that on a Sunday. There is an excellent little delicatessen very near to the main POSK building right outside Ravenscourt Underground Railway Station. If you go on further to the end of the District Line and look around Ealing Broadway, then I am sure you will find quite a few little shops where you can find food. Even Tescos now stock some polish food and soft drinks and it would be a lot cheaper than little shops which have much higher overheads.

Thank you! I will check out the shops around POSK and in Ealing. My mum just told me of a Polish market that's happening in Acton early next week. Apparently there are going to be lots of stalls bringing stuff over from Poland but I only arrive the day it ends :(

Hi,

I would also recommend the shops close to POSK in Hammersmith, namely Polanka (258 King Street) and Polish Specialities (226 King Street, W6). These, and a Polish shop in Chiswick are the closest ones to me. Polish Specialities is probably the more popular shop.

Check out the website polishshops.com; this site gives you the addresses of a number of Polish shops along with telephone numbers.

I think your best bet would be Ealing, Hammersmith, Acton, Fulham, Shepherds Bush.

My mum, she's 77yrs old now but will be preparing the Christmas Eve meal along with my wife; she usually gets the fish from an English fishmonger in Turnham Green - carp & pike. It's best to pre-order these.

Actually whilst thinking about it a boss at work lives in Winsdor and he was telling me that there is a whole supermarket there full of Polish things. It is there probably because there are a lot of new Polish arrivals living in the Slough area. From London, if you have a car, it would be an easy drive just a little way down the M3.

There is a Polish deli on Ealing Broadway on the opposite side of the road from the Underground station. It is on the corner.

there are masses of Polish shops all over London now, seemingly a new one springs up every week. London is a big place, so it depends where you are located, but probably the ones already mentioned are best for you. If you happen to be in North London you will find shops in Stoke Newington, Holloway, Camden, Dalston, Wood Green etc....most of them also do home cooked deli type food and cakes, bread etc... also Sainsburys, Morrisons and Costcutter all now do limited Polish ranges.

Very disappointing range in Tesco and Sainsburys. Don't know about others.

Wiejska good in Sainsburys though.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I've seen the Polish food at Tesco, Sainsbury's and Polish Specialities on past visits to London and have to confess I've been slightly underwhelmed - they only seem to stock a selection of the cheaper products that I see here in Poland. I guess they're catering for the Polish workers though so that would figure. The shops in N London sound interesting though, particularly if they're doing home made products - I will make time to go check them out.

Polanglik - thanks for the Turnham Green fishmonger tip - I think I know which one you mean. I will go place my order this week!

Yes but the prices are at least HALF those in small private shops so it would be best to buy the general orange juices ect in Tesco rather than in these small shops.
