To be honest I know this part of the UK quite well as one of my parents come from there and have an uncle who has a very successful business there (who employs loads of Polish people)... the locals are not very accepting to foreigners and never have been!!

I always think of this area as a family in-breading area of the UK, even me as a british citizen is saddened by this article....

Maybe the landlord/landlords in question have had problems before with some eastern europeans and therefore don't want to take the risk again.

I know of some who will not rent to students, maybe this is a similar case.

Here's how it works.

You want to prove a point.
You select an area, preferably where Poles are likely to be rejected.
You keep on shooting until you have enough material you want to show on TV.

simple as that

no need to put any racial issues - this is not the case when the state should interfere

The multiculti industry just had to get involved. "Arpita Dutt, a discrimination lawyer at solicitors Russell Jones and Walker, told the BBC: "What they should be saying is, 'I can't do this, I can't act on those instructions. I can get you the best tenant for your property and try to meet those needs. But if I did it in the way you are asking me to do it, then that's against the law'."

Why are the BBC actively searching for evidence of "racism"? Landlords own the property, they should be allowed rent to whoever they want, or, in this case, dont want.

Well, if an owner gives specifi requirements like: NO POLES, then well, than it is racism, i agree the owner has the right to protect his property, but the law prohibits to exclude people because of nationality, sex, religion etc etc..

There should be however be allowed for the owner to ask the tenant kind of criminal records, that would be much better.

It is the landlords property, his rules. The BBC should butt out, it is none of their business.

Yeah but legally the landlord is breaking the law...Off course this happens everyday in every country, but the BBC has got to make ratings right?

I dont know about Polish tenants in the UK but i can vouch for them over here, ive been involved in property management a little. Out of 15 lets ive had around 4 not pay rent and just move out never to be seen again, 2 tenants running prostitute establishments, one i was required to assit the Police, after that i just gave up.

Most have had big dogs which trash the apartments, cigarette burns in sofas, water leaks through unreported issues, stolen furniture etc etc. never again.

I still think it is not ok to impose such laws on the nation - if the general public strongly dislikes some aliens for whatever reason, for the state actively pursuing the policy that is against these feelings (in form of imposed laws instead of education and example) is counterproductive (does not serve the intended goal - quite the reverse)

Is this the same BBC which gives a voice to people like Giles Coren?

It is not the Landlords who are breaking the law, it is those venal parasites the letting/estate agents who are breaking the law. They act upon the instructions of the Landlords, to ensure they secure their business.

If the letting/estate agents declined to accept those instructions, knowing that to do otherwise is unlawful, they might loose out. It is the letting/estate agents responsibility to ensure properties are let without discrimination - if they fail to do this, they are the ones breaking the law.

And the same Giles Coren who needs somebody in the UK to make a formal complaint about him employing illegal immigrants?

I'd love to sympathise, but considering that I've had to threaten every landlord/lettings agent I've dealt with over the past 10 years with County Court proceedings, just to get my deposit back (despite often leaving flats in better condition than they were left for me, and not breaking any terms of the agreement) I'm afraid that I'm the last person who will sympathise. I'm still owed nearly £2000 by one landlord/lettings agent, and I'm getting ready to prepare my next case. I'm fed up of these thieving c***s keeping me poor. **** landlords.

You don't get the hypocrisy of it, do you.

I have a great long term/ short term memory, thanks for asking. The landlords where probably right when they put up them signs back in the day. The Irish who arrived were poor, destitute, and dirty. Paddy also had a dangerous past time, bombing the fook out of the place.
