More Polish workers leaving the Isles

Yes it will be. It's hot discussion around Edinburgh just now, particularly after the rape that happened a couple of weeks ago. The UK needs to get it's finger out and get some proper way of checking immigrants who come into the country. A general election is way over due, maybe that way we could actually elect who runs the country and get rid of Mr Balloon.

Not sure it will have a massive impact since there are plenty of Lithuanians, Hungarians, Czechs and Slovakians, Im sure a lot that are returning are those that are students or people who have done what they came to do - i.e. save for a better life in Poland...good luck to them, but on the flip side there are Poles that have settled.... Also maybe the person who wrote that article should stand near Chorlton Street bus station any night of the week and see all the cars with Polish registrations, picking up friends and relatives just arrriving... ;-) True numbers of those actually living and working in the UK isnt really known so i tend to ignore any figures that are published....

In my opinion it just reflects some tendencies, no facts.

For me as Polish person (I live in Poland) it is good sign. First time in last 200 years Polish people can choose where they live. Some prefe UK some Poland. What is more people who prefere Poland are not consider crazy. Some prefere Poland because it is easier to set up succesful business here. Some because of family. 7% of people comming back couldn't integrate into British society ... some people find life in Poland more comfortable than in UK ... very good. ShelleyS: Not sure it will have a massive impact since there are plenty of Lithuanians, Hungarians, Czechs and Slovakians I don't think authors of this article try to send mesage for Brtis ;) Honestly we need Poles here in Poland and it is good you can replace them. (I think imigrants have different opinion :P) as I remeber few years ago doctors were trying to go to some wester country and work in factory ... it seems that it is the past :)

Lukasz: as I remeber few years ago doctors were trying to go to some wester country and work in factory ... it seems that it is the past :) You're right, Polish people are working in professions, Dentists, Doctors, Engineers and so on, those are the kind of people the UK can't aford to lose (no offence to those in the lower end jobs) and judging by the salaries in Poland I dont think a Polish GP or Dentist being paid £45,000 + a year (in the UK) is in any hurry to go back to Poland just yet. I can only sumise the reason for the mass exodus is the drop in the £ and the risk of coming to a country with a shaky economy!

I was talking about this the other day to a fellow teacher. Many still want to join other family members across there. However, many already miss products you can only buy in Poland. This may not be enough of a lure. More Poles were expected to return given the boom in Poland a couple of years back. The crisis has taken hold here and they also have 5000PLN from a 1000 pounds job, rather than 4000PLN, that makes a difference.

What I think will happen is that those with the real skills that we could probably do with keeping will be the ones to go back. We'll be left with those that have wangled themselves onto a cushy life on the scrounge and will just be a drain on the public purse. This together with those that maybe somehow forced to stay here, trapped by debts etc makes me think that the longer term effects of this wave of immigration has yet to be realised. It will be interesting to see how immigration gets tackled by politicians, the closer we get to a general election.

Seanus: Many still want to join other family members across there. It's true that. My friend wants to bring her Mother across here simply because my friend doesn't want to go back to Poland. The reason she doesn't want to go back is that she has lost contact with about 80% of the people she knew in Poland and that includes family members. Her parents divorced while she was over here and the majority of the family members who were present in her life were on the fathers side and stopped contact with my friends mother and eventually my friend. So her mother is quite lonely in Poland without her. She is just about finished her university degree and I think after that her mother will join her here. It's impossible to see how any party can make the much needed changes without a radical agenda. Any new Government would need to take tough, and possibly quite unpopular decisions, and I just don't see that happening. Tough talk on immigration is too often seen as "playing the race card", and no mainstream party wants to take the risk of it all boiling over into nastiness. Personally I think that they should take the risk, but just be damn careful. The other problem is that our hands seem to be tied with regards to immigration from within the EU and this is probably something that needs the most attention. Personally I don't really see much changing.

A recent article in Newsweek said many of the Poles leaving UK were heading to Scandinavia, especially Norway.

A friend of mine left the UK in mid December, he hasn't worked yet :( He's heading off to Germany, the company he worked for in the UK has laid of most of the agency staff who happened to be Polish - he actually left a perm job here, family pressure was the reason - wifey wanted him home, understandably, but didn't really think about his job prospects :( He has had offers of work, but wont work for the money on offer in Poland!

Mister H: Personally I don't really see much changing. If they just tightened up a bit on checking individuals. Like the guy who hacked up the Lithuanian girl. He had already committed serious crimes in his own country so why should he be allowed to come to this country and live and work(?). Trevek: Poles leaving UK were heading to Scandinavia, especially Norway. Not just Poles. People are actively seeking places to move to to get away from the "credit crunch". However, people move about. I have talked to Poles who only want to live here for a short time and never had any intention of staying here but neither will they return to Poland. Not in the immediate future anyway.

I have a friend or two in Norway at the moment, they didn't even bother going to UK/Ireland. What I'm interested in is whethr any mass homecoming will just create a similar glut of over-qualified people with no jobs. A colleague who is a banker suggested that actually the ones who stayed in Poland might be in a better position than SOME of those who left.

I just read about that in a magazine, you can read it following this link (and by flicking to page 74). It talks about how Poles an feel returning home after a time away. It also talks about how there aren't the jobs there were a year ago.

is this true about the immigrants from poland working in lairds ? this is a total and absolute disgrace totally wrong what type of labour government is this birkenhead has 24% unemployment the 4th highest in britain and has done for many years not because of a recession i can recall over 15 years of this stinking town the job centres were just the same , no proper jobs no prospects no hope and fairness has never existed here , opening your doors like this is insane , it is a disgrace poor people are poorer under a labour government the likes of harman , blears ,milliband the total sleaze implied by these members , i just don't understand people voting labour especially round here i mean you could put a labour sign on a donkey and idiots just seem to vote labour when they have nothing in common with us they don't represent our people or even seem to care , new labour are the worst party ever to be in control , the founders of labour would turn in their graves if they could see this bunch of low life sleaze , Brown talks of giving banks regulations they want back in 2007 and even gave bankers positions as peers , not even jobs at £5 an hour exist here jobs that last for 2 days in and out in and out of work if you can even get anything the jobcentre's don't offer any training just make you feel ashamed for signing on , hoards of people looking at job screens for minimum wage jobs that don't exist in this area living on £59 a week and i hear the disgust and bitterness every day by decent law abiding citizens who can't get anything anywhere workwise in birkenhead and havn't been able to for decades , something has to change Frank revolution is what's needed in this country , it's funny how anyone living on benefits is worse off today than they were under Thatcher believe it or not , i tell everyone that people had better working rights and a fairer chance under john major's years than they do under new labour and it's a fact . fat MP's get fat salaries and sell out their own people to eastern europe and if you comment then your a racist or polonophobic or you have hate issues it's totally godless and wrong , even my nan always says though she was poor in the 1980's she could always find the small amount to put in the gas and electric now shareholders take £7 for every ten pound you put into your electric , please frank if you meet people in your surgery please please advise them not to vote new labour if they do they face more unemployment more poverty more lies and more sleaze
