For the record I am on here stating my opinions and views. I employ quite alot of polish workers at my factory, most of whom I have high regard for as I have said on other threads. I have no issue with any culture or nationality residing in this country, working and contributing to society and the economy. My point was that why stay when the work dry's up? If they are here to provide for families back home and mortgages then what is the benefit of staying when their income ceases?

Wrong wrong wrong wrong! Now, take in to account that 38% of workers in Ireland pay no P.A.Y.E. tax. That includes a proportion of the Irish population but mostly foreigners, it must be acknowledged. Not only that, but when one factors in Children Allowance [not to mention Medical Card, Council House, Unemployment Benefit/Assistance etc. etc. ], an even greater proportion of the immigrant population are effective net beneficiaries of public largess. Which means middle-to-high income earners. Who pays?

irishdeano Does she earn more than 25,000 euro a year? If not shes pays no PAYE and a couple of euro in PRSI. I repeat, 38% of the population pay no PAYE. Most of these would be foreigners working for low rates of pay. I think you know, nowt.

RevokeNice: The Poles, as an ethnic group, are a burden on the Irish state. Maybe. Just as Ireland was a burden on EU, milking the union for many years and benefitting immensely from European Union funds. As Poland is a new EU member we are still net beneficients of the system. However, what Poland receives per capita is nothing compared to the money that Ireland got. The Irish weren't complaining when they were milking the EU and getting huge benefits for years. Now, when they have to share some of their wealth they seem to think that it's not fair.

RevokeNice You still haven't demonstrated how the net contribution of Polish people in Ireland is detrimental to the country. time means I was born and spent most of my life in Belfast I dont need some foreigner telling me, at the point of a gun, how British I am. As you very well know a lot of people in the Six Counties view themselves as British, a slim majority yes but an artifically created one, maintained through force of arms. Dont try to score cheap points by insulting Irish people.

Grzegorz_ So they should be repatriated. They are guest workers, they got paid. They become unemployed they should be sent back home. Its where charity begins. Barney I have posted many links showing how Poles are a burden on the Irish economy. Not one has been refuted. Torq The EU has got billions from fishing in Irish waters. Theres no such thing as a free lunch.

Torq: Exactly. It has been an ideal location for their companies because you have been an EU member. All that investment from America and Europe came to your country because you have been in the common trade area with a huge EU market. Those same companies moved on when the money dried up and you know that. They go where the funding is, bleed it dry and move onto the next countries joining the EU. They exploit the opportunities offered by EU and leave white elephants behind them whilst taking advantage of tax loop holes along the way.

Torq: The Irish weren't complaining when they were milking the EU and getting huge benefits for years. Now, when they have to share some of their wealth they seem to think that it's not fair. It was foreign investment. The EU and America seen Ireland as an ideal location for their companies....and so EU funding flooded in to create the many factories and offices for these companies creating jobs. Where are they now? and more to the point where is the wealth you talk about?

All that investment from America and Europe came to your country because you have been in the common trade area with a huge EU market. They wouldn't even bother investing all that huge money in a 3,7 million country if you weren't a part of EU (which is quite obvious if you look at Ireland before 1973 - why didn't they invest all that money when you weren't an EU member?). Ireland32: It was foreign investment. Not only. From the EU structural funds alone you've received over 17 billion euro, not to mention the funds for farming and other EU programs that were vital in creating the "Celtic Tiger" economy.

irishdeano I am an Irish citizen and my views on immigration from eastern europe are shared with 66% of the Irish population who want much stricter immigration controls from Eastern European accession states.(source Irish Times) Poland has given Ireland nowt, we owe them nothing.

The one thing that you seem to miss is that Poles are in Ireland legaly and are receiving all the benefits that they are entitled to according to the Irish law. If it is the will of Irish people to change that law, then I guess the law will be changed and they will not receive any benefits anymore. It is in your power to enforce that kind of law but until then it's simply pure nonsense. I don't understand what do you mean by "repatriated" or "sent back". Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? Whatever you do you have to act according to the law and there is no law allowing to "send back" citizens of one EU country to another EU country en masse against there will.

Im an Irish citizen also, i havent heard about 66% the irish times yeah im sure they havent asked everyone. Poland is central Europe, may i pass something on that the republic was complainting about few months ago, Othey were complainting that they were going home and not staying when times got tuff, just cant make your mind up

Torq Anybody can be deported from Ireland if they have no means to support themselves and a burden on the state or are involved in crime. Many Roma gypsies are deported back to Romania from Ireland, a fellow EU state. I find it strange that a Pole is lecturing me about my governments rules and regulations, tell that to the Poles who immigrate here they all claim they left because of their government. Tell them to stay and change the government and to improve their own native land. They are not needed or wanted in the Irish nation.

Congratulations Torq on hitting the nail firmly on the head. The Poles are doing nothing wrong. It is the system that is wrong. Benefits in Ireland are too high even in comparison to the north of Ireland. If I had a choice.......250 euro a week on dole in Ireland......Id stay too. Case closed. Sack the government, burn the flag, mobilise the people and let anarchy prevail.

If I had a choice.......250 euro a week on dole in Ireland The dole is something like £40 in the north, People on the border and other areas is working in the north and claiming the dole in the south and vice versa but you are not complainting about that

The numbers immigrating here are unsustainable, the Polish community claim that there are up to 500,000 Poles here. It is an invasion. That is the equivalent of every Irish national in Ireland emigrating to Poland. The government is finished, once a general election is called, they will be gone. We will have to rectify many of their mistakes. The first one on the list should be eastern europeans having free access to our labour market. It can be done by a stroke of a pen in Brussels.

It’s very easy to make negative assumptions and back them up with unexplained stats, much more stretching to look at the bigger picture. The only new plantation is in your mind.

Barney They stand for themselves. 1.5 billion sent home per annum. Over 125 million euro spent teaching foreign children English. 50,000 Poles claiming 204 euro a week dole. Over 3,000 Polish families claiming rent allowance(900 euro poer month). 30 million euro sent home to Poland as child allowance for children not even resident in the state. Add to all this that anyone under 25,000 euro per annum( the majority of Polish immigrants) do not pay a cent in PAYE tax and only a couple of euro in PRSI. They are a burden on the state.
