Dont invite her in.

Can't. She wanted to be my friend when nobody else did, she was the first person, along with her husband, that we got along with. She is just a bit silly at the moment.

asik:
don't like ie: to sit around the dinner table without their shoes on or barefoot (if during summer) and it is a good manner to respect that.

two points
- at her home she always asked everyone to take off shoes
- none of us uses the table, we use pillows on the floor and mine is wooden. so it's actually more comfortable to take the blasted 6 in heels of black lacquered leather OFF.

What, am I the only person here that likes a proper gossip? C'mon people... The thing that strook me the most about brits, though, was their obssesion with celebrities and their lifes... It wasn't that big of a topic back in Poland, but than again it was 6 years ago and times change...

That's a clear difference. Britain has many more goss magazines and they discuss celebrities to a mind-numbingly boring extent. It's the same old crap with Peter Andre, Jordan and Ant&Dec. Britain is a stagnant country in that respect.

This holding doors open is an enigma to me. People just don't do it here.

The difference between western world and Balkans is that in Balkans it is allowed to burp but farting is considered disgusting while in western world you can fart(it is considered hygienic) but you are not allowed to burp.(it is considered lack of good manners).
So you have to adjust accordingly.

Not in my house! My mum would have battered us if we burped or farted at the table...or at all for that matter!

It would depend on the level of drunkeness and observation. Some slip out and nobody notices. It just depends what class you are from. Many don't stand on ceremony. Go-enryo indeed!

There is gas and you have to naturally select the orifice of desired ejection.

Brits have been working on ejection from the ear but they haven't got it down yet ;)

There is more open farting in the UK but, given the cabbage consumption of Poles, they must be tooting their way along the streets quite the thing.

It's always better to let it out discreetly outdoors than loud and smelly indoors, don't you think?

Bollox. Some people here act like they were taking part in 'The Loudest Belch Ever Competition'.

I agree, Bart. Gotta avoid those wafters that drift throughout the house :) Still, there is such a thing as 'silent but violent'.

Pubs are full of belchers, it's just part of letting it all go.

Pubs are the places where you drink gassed beverages. And you drink plenty of them (: I guess it's all over the world. Then again, it's down to the person burping - you can do it 'in your face'-way or try to suppress it.

I remember beer to be pretty gassy in Scotland but not as bad as Tyskie. My Scottish friend agrees, it induces burping quite naturally. Burping is about set and setting.

That is why women avoid beer and prefer cocktails.

Not in Britain they don't. A good ladette will swill beer at the same rate as the lads. They cannot be outdone :)

I noticed that in Poland, it changes with age, "lyceum" girl students tend to drink a lot of beer, and when they "grow up" they slowly switch to cocktails. Same thing happens to some lads, but even then they fancy a beer from time to time. On the other hand I never noticed girls burping - maybe gymnasium girls.

so true!
But I've noticed something similar in Poland. But girls here, instead of drinking beer, take shots of vodka. As quick as their male friends. Sometimes they can even drink more vodka than their male friends !

It's usually the other way around. I've seen it many times, girls trying to keep up and falling badly. Girls in here are too proud not to take the challenge, which is pretty strange taking into consideration that always, anywhere, outdrinking effords are childish and stupid.
