Poles are inanimate objects........

Dictionary definition of 'pole'

link for more is :-
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Poles

pole 1 (p?l) Pronunciation Key
n.
Either extremity of an axis through a sphere.
Either of the regions contiguous to the extremities of the earth's rotational axis, the North Pole or the South Pole.
Physics A magnetic pole.
Electricity Either of two oppositely charged terminals, as in an electric cell or battery.
Astronomy A celestial pole.
Biology
Either extremity of the main axis of a nucleus, cell, or organism.
Either end of the spindle formed in a cell during mitosis.
The point on a nerve cell where a process originates.
Either of two antithetical ideas, propensities, forces, or positions: "the moral poles of modern medicine: on the one hand, a tinkering with procreation with at best ambiguous, at worst monstrous moral possibilities. On the other hand, scientific skill and cunning unambiguously in the service of hope" (Charles Krauthammer).
A fixed point of reference.
Mathematics The origin in a polar coordinate system; the vertex of a polar angle.

---------------------------------------------------------------------- -

And UKGUY, what do you base your assumptions on ? Because to me it doesn't make any sense.

I doubt Polish people think 'any country is better than theirs'. Poland is a poor country, held back and deprived in so many ways because of the Communism which was forced upon them.

They have the ability to earn more for working damned hard in another country now. It's a natural thing to happen and am sure if you were in the same position you would do the same. The UK depends on immigrants to keep the country running with all the services we have come to expect. Immigration is nothing new and we should feel grateful and fortunate that people are willing to come here, work flat out for minimum wages, doing jobs which many of us would not want to do.

So, I think you should read and absorb more information before coming out with such statements.....

Just my personal view but don't touch the igniion button lol
(just kidding)

Well I am sorry to say the above about sums it up... Even though Poles (name of nationality as in Finns, Danes, Czechs, Russians, etc) are supposedly very patriotic and proud of their country, the truth is that they can't wait to leave it :-(
I haven't met a nationality so eager to complain about their country of origin, and yet so full of themselves (a typical Polish paradox I guess).
I have also wondered why so many Poles have come to England and Ireland when there are other countries happy to accept them - Sweden, Spain, and recently the Netherlands if I remember right. You could say it's because of the language barrier but most of them don't speak English either, so what's the difference?
And here I am complaining about the Polish mentality, so that makes me one of the lot! ;-)

Very true. Almost on a par with the Brits for moaning about things in general and their country in particular - but woe betide you if you are not Polish and you join in!

Yes I think it's about money and short term opportunity. For the young ones I guees there is also the travel bug and to some of them the UK was the cash fuelling stop before they went off travelling further afield.

Very true.

I wonder how much louder and more vociferously, the 'Brits' and other similar countries would be complaining if they had been forced to live under a Communist regime ? You have to remember that Polish people are not communists, never have been and never will be YET they had to live under the Communist rule for a long period of their time.

Some British people just complain about everything under the sun because it is their nature......not because of circumstances forced upon them.........

True in that we have less to complain about. It's just that I was told by my Father that the Poles he fought with in WWII used to complain about everything (in a funny way) including their country. It's an intersting thought - is is experiential or not?

also The English seem to have forgotten that they went to Germany in the early 1990's looking for work in the building industry . . .cos the economy England was in recession and there was no work.

Of course they come to make money, but that doesnt mean they all hate their country. I have found the opposite to be true in fact. Some may complain about the economy/politics or whatever, but when it comes down to it most are patriotic. Guess you could the same about a lot of Brits, we love to run our country down, but when a foreigner trys to do it we get all defensive and patriotic.

I like my country and that's why I choose to stay here. I don't think any country is better than Poland, and certainly not England, which is full of fat arrogant bores, bad food, and weather even worse than Poland's. Plus in England they have those ridiculous seperate hot/cold water taps in bathrooms - you would think that the greedy clods who once ran an international empire would think of a smarter way to wash.

Ok guys,

this seems to have turned into are other countries better than poland, well on that note in some cases you could say yes, If poland was so good and could support all its people, offer them jobs, pay them a decent wage etc etc then the Polish would have no need to come to the UK to work in such numbers.

It is my understanding that there were just over 400,000 registered Polish Nationals working in the UK, that is an awful lot of Polish who seem to feel they can have a better life in this country rather than their own. I'm also sure there are Poles here who arrived before Poland joined the EU there for they were illegals and will not appear on this register.

I'm not trying to say Poland is a bad country of course not and the Polish like any nation i'm sure have a lot to be proud of, history, exports, inventions and so on and so on.

I have not complaints about Polish people or anybody from the EU coming to the UK if they want to better themselves however it does annoy me when they arrive and declare, 'well back in Poland its better' because because because, this makes me feel like saying, 'well you know where the airport is, you can fly back to where you came from'

I don't think i need to go into any other detail why the UK offers a better quality of life for Poles and other nationals than their own countries and i haven't even touched on economic factors, government rule and open opportunities.

thnx

In fact it must be remembered that the new Polish borders are indeed new since 1945 and that my relatives no longer alive spoke a very different Polish language to that spoken today. A lot of the Polish in England today are not the same 'animal' as those of the 1945 era. I see them outside and listen to what they say and a lot of what they say is very unpleasant-I can understand their language, well, more or less!

Yes, we did have an influx of educated phd type Polish immigrants in the early 1990's but these are very different from those of today coming in to the country.

yeah, alright Michal, sort of forgeting 1945-47 there arnt you,and so sure all the members of the Armia Krajowa were just dying to sign up as good little stalinists......

"I see them outside and listen to what they say and a lot of what they say is very unpleasant-"
Sometimes yes,I hear the Polish equivelent of the F word a heck of a lot from young "chavs" but this can be funny, especially when elderly Polish ladies of the "'45" generation hit them with a brolly :)

"Yes, we did have an influx of educated phd type Polish immigrants in the early 1990's but these are very different from those of today coming in to the country."

Rubbish, just showing snobbery or the circles you move in there M',plenty of educated/inteligent people are still arriving. What makes me smile is that many Poles in my area are not only speaking or improving in English but also learning some of our other "local" languages such as Uhrdhu and Punjabi.........
k.
ps,amethyst,I think we do have something like 2 million expats from the UK so.....atleast in most cases its villans going to the med to rub shoulders with dodgy russians lol
