Sending a parcel to Poland from UK

Would you recommend sending a parcel to Poland. I've heard dodgy stories regarding this. How safe is sending a parcel from UK royal mail international signed for to poland, 2kg WEIGHT parcel. 60CM length, ect

if its international signed for then at 2kg weight it will go via PARCELFORCE not Royal Mail services

goods only worth max 30 pounds sterling so not so much.

Don't they have Polish agencies in UK? Some may offer shipping services, and will usually charge much lower prices.

Recently I shipped a painting from Canada to Poland. Canada Post quoted me $425. The Polish agency charged me $45.

think you have been hearing scare stories good style .... very rare have i known parcels go missing as they are sorted separately from letters and go into parcel sacks to go to regional distribution centres that then load to a plane or train dependant on where headed!!

you just go to your post office, they weigh it for you and you fill in the customs sheet and tell them approx. how much its worth. its easy peasy. you shouldt have any problems or any dodgy stories happening.

Ooooh, this is something I know a bit about! Being an Ex postman.

Posting it should be very easy. As said above, just turn up at the PO and it'll all be done for you.

You can send it by Airmail, if it is 2kg or under. Though you may find that sending it as an International Parcel will be cheaper, though somewhat slower. You could even send it "surface" if it is non-urgent, as this is by far a lot cheaper. (one trick though, to send it surface, that works about 50% of the time, is to pay for the surface rate, but put an Airmail sticker on it. Most posties don't know all the International postal charges, they just throw it in with the rest of the Airmail stuff!)

Another thing to know is to write the words "Small Packet" on the item. This will dramatically reduce the price. If you are sending books or newspapers/magazines etc, write the words "printed paper" on the item for a further reduction.

Example.
Normal price for 2kg airmail item to Europe = £18.64
Small Packet @2kg = £10.88
Printed paper @ 2kg = £10.60

Royal Mail's website has a range of options to choose from.

For Parcels, they'd go by ParcelForce (aka ParcelFarce), which is a Royal Mail company, and you can find out about the cost for your parcel at the PO. You might also be able to use RMSP (Royal Mail Standard Parcels) which ISN'T ParcelFarce, though I 'm not 100% sure if the service is International... but it'd be useful to ask.

The trouble is, is that you do not know what is happening to your property once inside Poland. There are a lot of very dishonest people in Poland and things do go missing all the time.

yes beware, your chances of the parcel getting to the destination depend greatly on what's inside it. If it's something that could be sold on easily then it may well go awol. I've learned the hard way.

There are also a lot of dishonest people in the UK and things also go missing all the time, but in all honesty i think that the amount of post that gets sent in and out of Poland to the amount that actually goes missing is very very small, also try insuring it, doesnt cost much more.

Best of all is to find someone who is going to Poland. They may be prepared to take the parcel to Poland and then post it on at a fraction of the price.

My mum in NI has been sending me 2kg parcels for some time (the 10quid version).
So far, only 1 has been definitely 'lost' and that was 5 years ago (what the thief did with chocolate and M&S maternity tights is anyone's guess).

Many of the Polish shops [ or is that Polski Sklep :) ] can offer parcel services to Poland, and given this will quite often be the carrier for their goods for sale, your parcel should generally be ok. Also many of the Polish Autobus firms which do the UK-Poland runs offer parcel carriage too. (however my experience is that they can possibly take less care with your parcel so try to check them out first)

Forgot to say: The prices per parcel/Kg at the Polish shops does vary so shop around (but all will be a fraction of UK postal charges) also remember they are most likely a weekly service so time your delivery in advance if it is gifts etc. especially around the Christmas period. In all cases wrap your parcel VERY WELL

but dont the post office just remove the airmail sticker or write surface on the package plus on the printed postage labels it shows if airmail or surface do most ignore this?

bit like normal post service then as i have seen how parcels are handled first hand ... they are just thrown so if its breakable my advice is wrap well in bubble wrap

ditto on the bubble wrap, we also used parcel cord and form a 'net' round the parcel thus making it harder/more time consuming for chancers to help themselves from the parcel, let's face it determined thieves will be stopped by nothing

I don'e know it this is of any help but I've sent a number of things to PL and so far all have arrived safe and sound. Just make your package look as dull and uninteresting as you can.

You can send a parcel up to 30kg to any where in Poland for only £49.95

i had a very bad experience sending parcels to poland using TNT, first I paid £80 for the shipping, the delivery was three weeks late, and then I recieved a bill for £240! i would not recomend then!

We were moving back to Poland and we had a big load - about 20 cubic meters. Most of the removal companies asked for around 3k. In one of the polish magazines we found polish removal company - SafeVans. They did a great job for less than enyone else. I'm not sure if they take single parcels but it's worth asking.
