UK recession on the way?

page 1 of 2:  1  2  Next »

It appears as though the UK is heading for another recession.

2.5% drop in housing prices for March 2008
Increased food prices
Increased oil prices
A nation or borrowers
An undislcosed figure likely to top 50 billion of debt for national banks
GBP in lowest ever position against the EUR

Its not looking good folks. Perhaps the immigrants will have no choice but to leave over the coming months as the well dries up.

Depressing news.

Add to that the high level of National Debt against a trend of a rising not falling taxation burden, an increasing 'off balance sheet' need to fund public sector pension commitments from the current account, the other off balance sheet items like the Northern Rock bail out and waht do you get....

So much for Prudence Brown's stewardship of the economy. Anyone seen a genuine increase in the quality of the NHS or Education as a result of the moneies poured into them.

Bhutan seems nice....

I know there have been quite a few scares over the years and im not a specialist on the economy. But I would say this appears like the real deal.

I wonder if the UK housing market will crash like back in the early 90's

People who are struggling to pay for the basics, like food, warmth and shelter are neither able to afford or be inclined to play the stock market

There is also a school of thought that says that stock market speculators and the like who were intent on dreaming up ever more 'ingenious' debt backed products are more than a little responsible for the current melt down in the financial markets. Remember the days when lending was responsible?

Yes, yet I doubt they will be the ones to suffer most.

you know I think more people in Poland are closer to bottom line than Brtish (as to haveing possibility to do business)... so I understand what do you mean. We are going to have slow down in Poland as well. Maybe it is not going to be so drasctic but still ... we are part of world economy.

I was referring to people in general, as Grzegorz said we are heading for global recession. It's the people in the lower paid jobs, whose livelihoods are going to be at greatest risk. People are feeling the credit crunch, they are going to stop spending on the luxuries, not the necessities. People are going to cut back on going out to eat, drink, visit the theatre etc., It's the lowest paid workers who work in these places and they are the ones who will see their jobs most at risk initially.

This is also the bracket (from the UK side) where most of the immigrants are employed. Lets say unemployemt increases and Mr employer decides to lay off Brits in favour of keeping on their cheaper harder working foreign employees. Mr Brit labour worker is going to be pretty pissed to say the least.

Time to start hoarding things too - petrol, bread, water etc. and in Osiol's case, carrots

With Grangemouth refinery shutting down, people in Scotland are starting to do that already

Exactly what the bankers want. World recession is their dream. If they had their way, it'd be a world government in recession so they could call the shots.

UK and pretty much everywhere else. In Canada, economists are saying that the coming recession will be the worst one in 50 years. Gas prices are soaring and people are panicking. My family hasn`t felt it yet, but we`ll see what happens in the next few months.

Yup. A few rich ba$tards calling the shots. They probably figured out how much money they can make by inducing a debt crisis in the third world, so why not do it worldwide?

Greedy gits like Larry Silverstein and his henchmen hoard it. There were vast reserves of gold under WTC5, that Zionist prick likely made off with it. May he get his comeuppance. Stop 'pulling it' Larry and start thinking about others
