Did you know that Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is formulated differently for countries in Europe than for the U.S.? in 2008, Kraft removed artificial colorings, like yellow #5, and chemical sweeteners, like aspartame, from the products that they distribute in Europe, Australia, and other developed countries due to consumer concern over scientific studies that link these synthetic ingredients to hyperactivity and asthma in children. But, they haven't done the same thing here in the U.S.

The Unhealthy Truth

Once I heard a friend (who migrated to the USA) say that Americans dont care for good health (its not my words, so I cannot guarantee).

He said that he saw the fattest people in the world in USA. According to him, they start eating like insanes after they cross their 30's. One of the reason is that they feel that they are gonna die anyways...why not die eating. And that relationships take wierd turns there...so as its not gonna last anyways, so why worry and keep fit!

Though I dont want to agree there. But thats a report :). He is not yet a citizen, but he says he will be due to some arrangement (ideas) he has deviced. I dunno about that... but thats the news!

I look forward to visit USA for a month or two maybe :).

Your insults hurt no one but they show your poor character. Why must you write such trite things, express yourself in a kinder way.

Are you talking to me? If so, please dont think that my statement is beyond any argument. As I said, its a note from a friend of mine who looks forward to be a citizen of USA. Its usual to hear stories from friends. He is not known a a lair, but I still cannot guarantee his words (as I mentioned).

Atleast I know (believe) that no country can have only fat people :).

Looks like an interesting book, I will take a look, Thanks. It's fairly common knowledge here that meals of convenience are not the healthiest. The good news is that I have a variety of choices in my diet. If I want organically grown fruits and veggies they are available, If I want meats without hormones and antibiotics it is also available. Live and die by the choices you make. I personally eat a lot of venison and fish.(I hunt, fish, etc.) I have a PETA shirt that I wear when I deer hunt.

One of the reason is that they feel that they are gonna die anyways.

Its true, We have a fairly Romanesque view of life and death at times. We have a saying here that "Nobody gets out alive". I dont speak for everyone of course.

True, i have seen the biggest pigs in the USA, huge, enormously gelly-like anatomy, eating mc donalds and never getting out of their cars

Damn them and their prosperity! In the soviet union we starved and we liked it!
Dood, lamest troll............. EVER!

If anyone is fat and objects to words like "pig" you need to seriously consider obesity and what it means. It's a serious health problem in the US and the effects are horrid. Americans are in desperate need of lifestyle change. They need to stop consuming so much and quit being so selfish thinking they are the only ones on earth and that no generations will exist after theirs. Americans want to consume everything. We need to get back to basics like raw fruits and veggies.

It must be something in the burgers over there, I eat take-aways at least three times a week, and I never go anywhere without my car, but I still have a BMI which would allow me to become a flight attendant :)

Nope. More like people eat "take out" sometimes two, three times a day here. Three times a week? That's nothing :P

Three times a DAY????????????????????????????

Um, McMuffin and hash browns for breakfast, Quarterpounder with cheese Value meal lunch, Big Mac Value meal for dinner and Supersize the fries and drink.

Either that or they go to someplace like Carl's Jr or Chick Fil A. Whataburger another popular option. All-you-can-eat-pizza-buffets. I've seen so many obese people at places like Golden Corral and Ci-Cis with twenty, thirty slices of pizza on their plates.

Yes. It is probably the least expensive option also. (dollar menu, etc.)

consider obesity and what it means. It's a serious health problem

Agreed.

It's not the least expensive option. (not in my part of the US). If you buy fruits and veggies from the store (which is what's recommended as the healthiest choices) it's actually cheaper than junk food! Once your body gets used to it, it fills you up, too. Fruits, veggies, and foods like brown rice are cheaper than McDonalds, better for you nutrition-wise and less expensive than a diet that's mostly junk food and beef.

I disagree, but lets move on. What is your solution?

Look at the Dollar menu at Mcdonalds. You can get a sandwich of some kind, fries and a drink for three bucks plus tax. Most people go for Value Meals with bigger drinks and larger sandwiches and fries because the Dollar menu doesn't fill them up. They might have a shake or an M & M Mix with it, maybe a hot apple pie or two. That brings the grand total to nearly ten bucks a meal. Maybe less in the morning. The total would be about twenty five dollars a day, or a bit less, depending on if they get desserts. You can make a skillet meal consisting of chicken breasts, onions, garlic and napa cabbage for under ten bucks. It;s much cheaper and big enough to have plenty of left overs so it could last three days. It's healthier, too.

You can get a pound of frozen Tilapia fillets (around five) at Wal Mart for under four bucks and have one a night for dinner with some brown rice and veggies on the side, maybe baby carrots? It's much cheaper than eating out. It would cost you under twenty bucks to eat Tilapia with lime zest, rice and baby carrots every night for five days, plus, talipia is known for being low in calories.

I dont disagree with your recipe for health. How do you force people to do this?

You can raise the price or tax the **** out of it, but, If that worked we wouldn't be selling any alcohol or cigarettes right now. right?

You can't force people to do anything. What you do is use the same dirty tactics that got them hooked on junk food only use them to get hooked on health food; Methods of advertising and propaganda in the media. It obviously works otherwise people wouldn't be so addicted to fast food. It would take a generation of brainwashing tho'. That kind of deprogramming doesn't happen overnight...

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese

who eats that anyways? LOL

Seriously, some people should watch what they eat but the first step is to stop showing food on TV - it should be forbidden.

For the same reason prohibiting cigarettes doesn't work. Long time ago it was discovered brainwashing is more effective than an all out ban that just causes black market demand of product or service.

Better to just tax it all and use the revenues to prop up health care. Just give the excess to the health insurance CEOs in the form of subsidies and say it's to insure the overly weighted :)

I think it would work but the food lobby is so strong in the US that it might be difficult. Not to mention the revenues from advertising.

So fat people are hapless victims?

Wouldnt cheap plentiful food be considered a good thing? I am confuse........

Fat people give revenue to diet pills and weight watchers orgs. One feeds the other.

Nutritional food is what's good. Junk food can be expensive and doesn't have the vitamins and minerals we need to function. Ironically, the less processed the food the cheaper it is (you don't pay people to change or process it in some way, just harvest it) and better it is for you nutritionwise. Fat people can have poor nutrition despite having more than some meat on their bones.

What level of processing constitutes junk food? processing for preservation is a necessary evil. The environmental cost of fresh vegetables year round is enormous. Where do we draw the line? Understand that I am not disagreeing with you, only trying to find viable solutions.

I'm not sure if I agree. There's always tons of veggies and fruits in the produce department of Super Wal Mart. Did you know the agriculture industry actually destroys crops to keep the price higher? Thanks to crop rotation and tropical climates that allow year-round growth, there's year round access to fresher produce. Processing is necessary for food preservation is a myth. Maybe it was true 200 years ago but nowadays you don't need the canning process.

Some foods need processing, like whole grain bread and brown rice but most of your diet should come for the produce department. You would be able to see in the dark at night if it did.
