I am a U.S. citizen who has been working as an ESL teacher in Poland for the last couple of years. I am getting married to a Polish woman in July and we are planning on moving back to the U.S. after that. What steps should we be taking concerning visas, etc. right now? Also, when will she be able to get her green card? Thanks.

I've searched other threads. I'm sure there are similar questions but I can't seem to find anyone in the same situation. Also, plk123, I'm the one wanting to move back to the States. If it were up to her she'd stay in Poland. Dick.

I would suggest that you think twice before coming back to the States. Things have changed.. This is not the America that you remember. Poland sounds good to me.

If you have been working in Poland for a couple years and are "zameldowany", you can file for a CR1 visa for your wife. It takes about 1 year for processing in the US/Poland. She'll do her medical exam in Poland with interview. Once they grant her the CR1, she'll be able to come the US and a green card shows up in the mail within 30 days of entry.

You can also do a K3 visa for a spouse, its a little quicker, but in the long run its more expensive. K3 visa allows the spouse to come to the US for 2 years (allowing entry & exit throughout 2 yr period), however you must file paperwork for the greencard and work authorization.

None of the family based visa's are quick, USCIS is slow at processing.

Check out this site, there are tons of people who have gone through all spouse/fiance immigration. www.visajourney.com

I'm guessing from the grammar and subject matter that you are a Polish male. Probably a lonely one.

I'm American and my husband is from Poland.
About five years ago I went to Poland to teach English and I met the love of my life there. We lived together in Poland for over two years and then moved to the US. A year later we got married. It was NOT easy!
My advice to you would be to apply for the fiancee or spousal visa- it takes about nine months. It won't be a problem as long as she doesn't have a criminal history and as long as someone in America is willing to sign an affidavit of support for her. Have you been filing taxes?
It's a process indeed!

I really hate these people who are suggesting that this man's Polish partner is using him for immigrant benefits. I'm American and I married a Polish man. Many people also accused my husband of using me. I think it's terrible that Americans think all foreigners are out for their money and citizenship. When I married my husband I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that his feelings for me were genuine. He's had a green card for sometime and that didn't change him a bit. We're very happily expecting a child now!!!

On this forum, everyone are accusing everyone of everything, usually dishonesty, just don't take everything personally.

hey there. I'm also an American with a Polish husband living in poland. If you choose to wait (with the paperwork) until your married in July, then you can simply apply for immigration through a family member. I believe this the quicker option vs. the fiancee visa. The very first step is to fill out the Visa Petition Form I-130. Have a look at the www.uscis.gov website for more details.

Immigration through a family member:

Hope this helps:)

FYI: You may file for a Fiance Visa only if you plan to marry in the USA.
