Jay24: I understand your point but these type of events can bring about much needed investment, tourism, jobs, prospects and development For a few years ;) then the locals spend 30 years paying for it in increased council tax (or its local equivalent). They said the same about the Canary Wharf redevelopment, but how many Isle of Dogs residents got jobs there? Hardly any!
I'm glad I left London in time. I don't think I ever met a single person there who "backed the bid". Why the hell can't they just use purpose-built facilities in Athens every four years, and let each competing country contribute to its upkeep (and share in any profits)? Makes far more sense.
