expect lots of weird stares.

I'm Persian-Pakistani. Married to a Polish guy. I visited Wroclaw with him. I swear, I have never been eyed up and down so much in my life before. I don't dress in a burka or anything either.

TEMP is right, its not that Polish people are racist, but rather that 99.99999 % of the population or basically full ethnic polish roman catholics who have probably never seen different ethnic people in real life.
but careful for the young polish guys with bald heads, those bastards are always looking for a fight haha but your iranian so you shouldn't have a problem.... but to be honest I think moving to poland from Canada is like a step backwards bro, Canada has better living conditions, more space etc.

good luck

it depends where you will be. in warsaw or a big city you will have less attention shown to you than in a small town

if i were you i wouldn't do it. I don't know anything about you or your situation but i don't think it's a decision you'd look back on as a good one- if you do move then i sincerely hope i'm wrong

vancouver

Vancouver is like the biggest druggie city in Canada, what do you expect, of course there's homeless people, but that's everywhere, Poland has homeless people too, and Romanian gypsies.

I am Polish! I have almost black hair and naturally!
My whole family has black hair!
People in poland dont see me as a pole even!
people will just look at you as being exotic and depends what kind of iranian guy you are. are you the kind that has lots of facial hair or are you a modern iranian?

Jesus I canīt believe what I am hearing here, Poland is becoming the second best destination for all immmigrants abroad. We have a s***tload of Vietnamese, Africans, Ukrainians what not. My of my friend is actually from Ghana and he never experience racism. Sure I guess you can say in some parts youīll find some skinheads, but thatīs in every country (especially Finland). I swear you people should stop making this country sound like Russia for godsakes! And economy is becoming better then ever in poland!

This country is not that racistic as many people say. I was there with my black firend for 2 weeks and there was no problems with racist. Poles are very kind and if you try to be nice to them they will be the same to you. If you are afraid of people that are looking at you without reason, donīt be! There are so few black people in Poland that black persons are just intressting for them, because you wonīt see people with this skin colour everyday.
My friend loved the trip and we plan to go there next year, hope you will like it there too.

I have been there 13 times and have always found that Polish People are that of the friendliest in the world....if you are looking for a problem...you can always find one ANYWHERE in the world...but if you are looking for one of the most cultural societies in the world

see look a muslin in poland in this video

i really hope that an iranian can live in poland, what a sad day if other cultures couldn't survive there. granted i've lived in toronto almost all my life so i'm used to all different kinds of skin color, but i think i'd be smiling to see an iranian in poland. i'd say hi and start a conversation, it'd be more interesting to hear their story how they ended up there rather than being grumpy about it and just starring.

Lovinpolska is right, many Africans are here to study Medicine amongst other things. Many Vietnamese are here to sell in market stalls. There are many here in Gliwice but LOADS in Warsaw.

I'm just saying that s***load wouldn't be the word to describe it especially when you're from Canada or the States, it's a laugh for someone to say that about Poland.

Yeah but it's a relative thing, we seem to agree on that. In the Polish perception, there are many, relative to their virtual homogeneity. In a British sense, we wouldn't consider their level to be a shitload.

I'm just talking about in an international sense, that is NOT a lot of foreigners and saying that Poland is becoming the second best destination for foreigners is a lot of exaggeration.
Considering some Poles have no perception of the 'n' word and similar racial terms, it shows they really don't know much about people who are visible minorities. When I was there, there were a lot of teenagers throwing the 'n' word around when speaking English which I didn't particularily agree with but the fact they didn't know how bad the connotation with the word is was a bit shocking to me and told me that they don't really have contact with many black folk apparently which leads me to the conclusion that Poland doesn't have a whole lot of immigrants who represent visible minorities.

hahaha, when did this happen?!? Have I missed a memo?!?

OP: there is quite a bit of racism in Poland (I am Polish and hate most everybody :P j/k). That said, don't let it discourage ya. Chin up, learn to frown and complain loads (too much smiling will get you pegged as having a mental illness), and you will be fitting in in no time at all. :P

peace

What so they can laugh at your pronunciation?

I tried learning polish and they laugh at me for not being able to say some of their idiotic phrases, therefore i gave up Everyone i socialise with and do business with here in Poland speaks English therefore I speak english to everyone.

Polish people seem to find it amusing to see non poles speaking polish so why give them something to laugh at?

Heh, that's me too :) lol

I must admit, I like Iranian people. Unlike certain other ethnic groups I could mention, I've never met an Iranian I didn't like. So big up the Iranians and ting! haha. Ignore their wasteman government - I'm nothing like a NuLabour or Liga Polskich Rodzin politician, either! lol.

Poles who like to read up on genetics would find that we are actually much closer to several Iranic peoples than to Western Europeans. And if you look up "Pashtunwali", you may find a lot of similarities between that and Polish culture/attitude to Poland/being Polish etc.

To the OP: as long as you "don't try a ting" as we say round here, you should be OK.

That's because you look (so) beautiful.

You'll be fine; don't let the 'chicken littles' scare you. If you can speak some Polish the people there will be delighted to have you (over for dinner too).

There you go, well put.

Etc, etc. Only the trolls here have some need to be anti-Polish.

Ah, an honest bigot (for a change).

A Persian doctor delivered my three kids (oh so many years ago). Iranians as a people are well liked but as usual it's the governments that need to be changed.

actually only rude guys will laugh at you ! but the rest is fine ! i met lots of people and most of the time i didn't have to speak polsih (my polish skills sucks anyway) but when i have a big meeting like a birthday party or something let's say 99% of girls speak good english and 10% of guys mby less know nothing about english ! and they laugh from every single polsih word comming out of my mouth like bunch of idiots , but the rest is laughing or even smiling when i say a polish word in wrong way so the meaning will change to for example to bad word !
in the end i had enough one time of those guys and i had to ask them why you laughing guys when the only reason i'm forcing my self to speak in polish that you guys don't speak english !! and i can simply ignore you totaly and stick with who can understand me !
