Age difference in our relationship. I'm 41, my girlfriend is 27.

Hi all I am new to this forum and would be interested in peoples views relating to a set of events which has happend to me of late. Bascially I have entered in to a relationship with the polish girl who works in our local polish shop in leytonstone / london. What started of as a bit of a fling has now resulted in her asking for somthing more serious and a bit more committement. So much so that she now wants to take me back to polski land to meet maama and papa !!! The only issue is the age difference. Her 27, a really nice girl, educated, switched on and the icing on the cake is she is very good looking. Me 41, although told i pass for a lot younger. Ex miliary, decent job do lots of sports and am quite independant. To be honest I am quite flattered to say the least. As she pretty much has the pick of the bunch. That includes loads from her social group who are more in line with her age. Ive got my own mind and have decided to go for this. It would raise eyebrows here in the uk as there is a noticeble difference in the age. A couple of friends have worked in Poland. They say that age differences in relationships are more common over there and it would go un-noticed. I would be interested in peoples opinions on this forum. ie Do you think the age gap is so large that at some point differences will occur and it will be difficult to keep things going ? and also is age gaps in relationships more common than here over in poland ? thanks Mark.

There is an age gap, but I don't think it's extremely large. Relationships can be difficult if you are in different stages of life, maybe not in the beginning but later. But if you don't experience this kind of problem there is nothing wrong with this age difference.

The only issue is the age difference. If she's prepared to invite you to meet the family, I shouldn't imagine there will be a problem. Go for it.

Men have always dated younger girls in the UK It's 13 years difference hardly kiddle fiddling! Maybe if you were the one who was 27 and she the 41 it might have caused a bit of a stir a few years ago, but these days it's even acceptable for women to date younger men. Stop thinking too much about it or it will cause a problem.

If she was 17 and you were 31, then you might have a point. As it is, she is old enough to know what she wants. As long as she is financially independent and not after any cash you might have, then I say relax and enjoy it. If your only issue is the age-gap, then I say that there is no issue. If you think things are going too fast generally, then that's a whole different thing.

I remember my in-laws to be were concerned that I was only three years older than their daughter and that she needed someone older on the grounds that males were typically immature. How right they were.

How right they were. Aw I doubt it, it really depends on personality. Sure, females seem to mature faster than males but we have our fallbacks as well. I dont think age is really important, if you are "too close in age" or what have you. If you love her and she loves you then forget it!

I think your obviously her pick. as for age gaps, if you were a 41 year old man lookin at a 19 year old then yeah I think heads would turn. my thoughts are who cares what other people think its really your life and what makes you happy, not what makes others happy, your not doing it to please them now are you? Marc now that she has gone serious on you are having second thoughts!!! You seem to be comfortable in your single shoes and is this why at 41 you have not settled? Follow your heart as once you experience the family values and lifestyle in Poland you will not regret it . There is an awful wrong misconception about Polish girls being "after your money" . This is Untrue.There is however an old common Communist heritage in a big proportion of the polish girls in that they tend to perceive you as the breadwinner and they will be happy to maintain the home and bear your child and COOK!!!!!! Having been married for a good 20 years to an independent high flying Wester girl you can imagine how I crave for such great Eastern promise!!! Go for it Marc boy

My current job is more regimented . I was asking for posters opinions and views that is true. But not to act upon. Just out of interest.
