Dilemma, Flight School or beautiful polish women?????

Well this is my first post so here it goes...

I am a law student in my last year, 22 and I am a black British. i also live in England Mnachester. I have been with my girlfriend for almost a year now and she is stunning and makes me happy, she is also 4yrs older than me and need i say shes polish.

Dilemma - I first wanted to train to be a lawyer, hence being at law school, however, after plenty of work placements i had a change of heart. i could not envisage being stuck in an office 9-5.

so i am considering embarking on a flight course and train to become a commercial pilot.
The problem is that i will have to train for 18 months in Oxford, 6 of which will be in Arizona America.

As you can see, it would mean leaving her, something that i really, really do not want to do because i am so happy with her to the extent that i might be falling in love with her.

The relationship is quite tentative if that makes sense, reasons being - Age (4yrs older), clearly issues with color, which she does not see as a problem, but a cannot deny the fact that her friends or others may see as a problem back in Poland.

Assistat, advice in any way would be great.

cheers, Ez

Don't worry about it. As a qualified pilot I am sure you will be able to find plenty more where she came from :-)

Six months apart is no big deal if your relationship is strong enough. It took me four years to get my wife to be out of Poland and in that time I saw her three times!

No doubt you have discussed your plans with her. Her opinion is worth more than any of ours.

Good luck.

is there really that much difference between an office and a cockpit? seems cockpit may be more constraining, no?

If you want to be a pilot you won't see her all the time either. Especially if you want to make any real money you will be away for days at a time often.

Go for the piloting mate. Follow your own wishes, if she loves you as you love her then she'll still be here when you get back.

Not of yet, i have my medical 1 on the 19th and if i pass that i shall be applying to Oxford Aviation Academy. I do not have a sponsor.

It is very expensive but it would be a worthwhile investment if the economy picks up and no more airlines close down

i do need to be sure of this as i mentioned it is very expensive career to get into, but i do not wish to leave my gf

Gosiaa- i shall do when she gets back from Poland. she went for 11 days as she did not get to see her family over the festive season. i wanted to go but uni has me drowning in work.

i' ve even considered applying to Wizzair, thus, does anyone know of the salarty for a pilot working for Wizzair ...... i think i have just found my next post question. haha.

everyone thanks for the replies.

good point, however, i have been many places by plane and there is nothing better than breaking through clouds coloured orange, red and pink. its fantastic. a view i would certainly want to look at for the rest of my life. Furthermore, tedious contract drafting, opinion writing, and constant reading of old authorities, sat in front of a computer, is beaten by visiting various destinations, tranquil and scenic views any day of the week. lol

If you love the girl...I'm not sure how serious you are, but stake your claim, man! if she is the one, I mean. Take her with you.
I also thought I would mention, I don't know how it is with European air carriers but I work with a lot of people who on the outside are airline pilots (mobilized reservists, that sort of thing) and they say times are tough and there is not much hiring happening. Of course that is just the big US air carriers, it might be completely different for European airlines. Still I agree sounds more interesting than working an office unless you get some REALLY interesting cases.
If you are in love with this girl, don't give her up when you don't have to. You CAN have both a great woman and a great job. There are plenty of people who will tell you "There are plenty of fish in the sea" but there are also quite a few who for the rest of their lives wonder about the one that got away.
Hopefully you find the path that works best!
Good luck

could she not train as a " trolley dolly" ( air hostess / cabin crew) then you could be together. Also on flight you will get home cooking and also some naughty fun and games in the cock-pit !! sounds fine.

Glad to have helped.
be greedy (I've even been told it's the American way...but we didn't invent it!) take BOTH.
Good women are NOT dime a dozen.
Sounds like she might be a "keeper". Might as well have a job you like, while you're at it, right?
6 months in Arizona is NOTHING. If she can't be there with you, a good woman (sounds like she is) will wait for you.

What the hell are you talking about?
The man has a woman he loves-and a potential good career; it is quite acceptable for him to have both.

Incidentally...pot...kettle.

Is this Pinching Pete butting in again. The American patriot who is shunned by so many of his own. "Boston thug" I believe was another comment.

Flight school is a career investment, the latter is merely an ordeal and fast-track to hair loss ;)

Haha, i like that figurative of speech. However, John P has good point, i would love to have both.

As the saying goes: plenty of fish in the sea - it is true but i need not look now as i think i have found a decent woman.

I will see how it goes, but it is almost certain i am going to start training as i have passed my medical and been accepted to flight school, whoop!!!
