So...I am an English man in Poland since about 1 month! I am a teacher here! I love languages and am already learning a little Polish!

I've met a girl (one of my students actually) she is really nice! How do I know if she is "interested" or is only friends because "i am englsih" (everybody wants a foreign friend syndrome)

Is there a Polish "etiquette" I should follow? Do I need to ask her fathers permission before I ask her out ;-) ^_^

Seriously....how do i know if she's being "friendly" or if she is being "Friendly"

cheers everyone!!!

nice country by the way!! love the language!!!

Hmmm you dont need to ask her father,

Shes your student its not very good to be dating your students no matter what age they are, You should know if she likes you more, just ask her out the worst she can say is no

about dating students? why not? we are both adults??

yes we went out but there were other people! like i said! how do you know if it's a case of "foreign friend syndrome" i have lived in many countries and a lot of the time there can be a tendency for the natives to "want to have a foreign friend" not saying all the time!

but yeah your right i guess the worse she can say is no!!

cheers ! guess i knew that already! i was just wondering if there was some kind of taboo with them!!

im no casanova and am not good at the best of times! so being a "stranger in strange land" im even more so reluctant so to speak

Nah if they're both adults and thats not at Uni (our universities are weird like that) its ok.

Just walk up to her one time and ask her out on a coffee, see how she reacts and you'll know what are you standing on.

Edit. start a convo dont go for it right away.

Or you could follow Southers school of dating but i'm not sure where can you get a ballgag or handcuffs for a good price.
irishdeano:
flick her hair etc the normal things girls

Grab her butt, slap her and tell her "i know you want me b*tch.
miaxxx:

Actually she can do lotsa worse things, like tell you she's a lesbian in a relationship with an older woman and then show you a pic of some 80+ yrs topless German porn star making out with her.

1. i doubt you are male

2. i doubt you are english

3. "a little! i am learning! i am living in south east Poland since one month"
.....an example of typical english as spoken by a Pole.

so would one prefer that i spoke our majesty's the queen grammatically correct perfect english when one has a limit of only 100 characters!

I was just asking some advise! why do internet discussions always turn into proficiency debates!!????

blow me down and shoot me for not being grammatically correct on an internet thread!!!
if you look at my profile again you will notice i was not making a sentence but rather a list!!! 1 a little (implying not that much), 2. i am learning!! come on have you really got nothng better to do!!??? (shoot me down oh look a typo<<<)
as for being male?? last time i looked i was scientifically speaking a male!! not that i go to the gym or eat testosterone burgers. But for the most part i am indeed what is commonly known as part of the male population!!

so i refer you all to my original post!!!

(Deano i guess the nearest big town/city is Rzeszów)

I've had attractive college professors in the past. Flirted with them a lot also. However, I knew where to draw the line. No professor/student relationships; that's just so unprofessional.

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

not it isn't. it is abuse of your situation/power and at the very least would get you fired.

i'm still not convinced that your original post is genuine.

I agree, it's abuse of power. Do you value your position and furthering your career? Most Universities don't condone dating students and even forbid. Your English is noticeably off and I don't think it's internet slack. Pop Quiz: What University did you attend. <LOL>

It doesn't matter whether you're teaching at a university, junior college, private school, public school, etc. Teacher and student relationships should remain on a professional level.

thanks for the advise !!! and for managing to stick to the subject!! and not whether the post was grammatically correct or not!!

i was just curious!!

i was just wondering!!

i hope i will not burn in education hell for being lazy with grammar on an intenet site!!

although i must say that i have been told by the directors of the school that student/teacher relationships are fine!!

come on we are all adults!! (arent we?)
i am not talking about 30 year olds and 17 year olds!! im talking about a woman that is a year older than me for heavens sake!!

i was just wondering actually!! she was the one who invited me out first!! which brings me back to my original post!! is it a case of the "foreign friend syndrome"

LOL, hahaha! Sokrates, what did she say after you did that? Did you make a nice girl cry?

miaxxx:
How do I know if she is "interested" or is only friends because "i am englsih"

Even if she is, don't jump her to end it at that interest. It's stupid and useless.

beckski:
It doesn't matter whether you're teaching at a university, junior college, private school, public school, etc. Teacher and student relationships should remain on a professional level.

True, if such relationships began professionally, most likely it will end the same: If the two had a cooperative teacher/student relationship then it would be professional to network and stay connected for professional reasons, after the English course is over. Also relationships change, it's normal and acceptable in the Polish culture for the ex teacher & student to become friends only, as a result of their cooperative professional relationship. :)

miaxxx:
although i must say that i have been told by the directors of the school that student/teacher relationships are fine!!

If she’s interested in learning English and you’re interested in learning Polish like you told us, then by the end of your course offer her private English lessons for learning Polish; you could get to know her better. If one of you feels uncomfortable to proceed further because of what other people would think about your relationship, then you could find a job at a different school.

miaxxx:
