Trouble with Polish Mother-in-law...

Pudder   Jan 2, 07, 11:55 /  #
Yes, I stole her only daughter away to america and now I am to blame for all my mother-in-law's problems ... Married 10 years with two kids that spend most summers in Poland with Babcia & Dziedek (Sp?). Anyone else in a simular situation? Can anything be said or done?

Pudder,

if you "stole her only daughter to America", I assume the mother in law is still in Poland. Look on the bright side of the situation. It couldn't be better! Most mothers in law hate their sons in law so the further she is from you, the better. My mother in law lives in the States, I live in Poland, and although I've been married for two years, I still haven't actually met her. And I love it! I couldn't possibly stand her spoiling my son, telling me how to cook, how to iron my husband's shirts (in fact he does it himself) ect. So the fact that you live on two different continents is an advantage, after all you could be living next door...

Pudder,

Set up a web-cam for the in-laws. Then have a once a week chat with all the family gathered round. If the in-laws don't use a computer, sort it out with a neighbour.

Might work, might make your wife homesick. So think about it first.

I know how these older polish women are. My mom is one. They can be very stubborn and it's hard to change their mind once they set their mind on something...
I'm about to steal a Polish Prince from his mother....Haven't met her yet...The fun is about to start. But she's nice, from the pictures I've seen and she'll be happy for her son.

What a great outlook! Lol...

But seriously, the poor old woman probably just had been looking forward to enjoying and spoiling her grandchildren. You can hardly blame her for being upset.

It is true that Polish Mother-in-Laws are not very nice at all.
My Great grandmother didn't like my Grandmother's husband (grandfather) because he had very dark completions and my grandparents have 10 children togethers. They stayed together forever. No problem with their marriage.

Yes this has been my experience, I have a crazy mother in law and two crazy sister in laws, My mother in law sent them all out to ireland to work, they were all renting a one bedroomed flat togeter and are all very close in age, so when i met my then boyfriend he was sharing a one bed flat in with two sisters and their boyfriends himself ah yes the mother in law came to vist every second month, I seen my sexy boyfriend around the dublin working in constuction he came in to my resturant for his breakfast almost every day the only english he had was two coffes please, he could say any more it was love at first sight, I asked some other polish guys to set us up, any way cutting a long story short, we went to the movies and after that we went back to my house which was a ten bedroomed B&B that my nanny left me when she died , I said to my darling polish man you never have to go back to that horrible flat you can stay with me, Well he stayed that night and 4 years 1 baby he is still here, But the look on his mothers and sisters face when when well pulled up the next morning after our first date to collect his belongings was pricless, I laugh to this day when i think of the look of shock on the mother hens face

You mean when he was in poland, well he had to carry buckets to and from the well a few times a day, chop the wood, collect the eggs, kill the pig, especailly for a name day they aways kill a pork and roast it on a split. Harvest the bees, make the the vodka, you know bimber its a brown home made voda i think its 80% or somthing crazy like that. as well as drive all his female members of his family around cos ladies from his village don't want to drive it looks better for them socialy it they have someone to drive them around.
Oh and as well as that he drove 2 hours every day to and from the city for a work., and was paid about 1 euro an hour

That's what Polish Mothers are like lol, whether or not they happen to be an In Law.....

You can't change the tradition :))
sister act:
can i change it.

You are actually showing as a female in your profile and your little symbol against your name when you post also shows you are female? Check it out, the male has a different symbol to the female. The female symbol is an upright one whereas the male one veers towards the right.
