A band that comes to mind that has performed in the country is Eve of Destiny.. and I have heard that there are VK shows in Poland. I wonder if any bands achieved any status there.

I dont know of any popular in Poland, but a girlfriend of mine used to listen to Lolita No.18 they make some girly-punk musik and I saw "Melt Banana" once life and liked it - speedy punky stuff. "tike take hühner kacke"-lyrics but very nice agressive sound

Dunno if they are (/where) popular in PL, but they do rock! =)

(At the moment Puppypet doesn't exist anymore.)

Offtopic: maybe you find it interesting, there is a film called "Avalon". It's some sort of "real-life anime" and the protagonist Ash is based on the girl from Ghost in the Shell.

I have lived in Japan for years yet I don't recognise any of those Japanese bands mentioned.

i've seen avalon, it was meant to be dubbed in japanese so the polish actors were like yadda yadda and then the producer decided to keep the polish dialogue so that made it sound pretty unprofessional. i've found it rather boring.

by the way, this is quite interesting to me, have any of the polish members here ever read/bought the kawaii or mangazyn magazines?? ;)

Mamoru Oshii is known to direct things that often come off as boring to some degree... Ghost in the Shell was no exception...

yeah never really warmed up to GitS, although it is a classic. i remember there was quite a bit of a fuss in Poland over a cover of one of those manga magazines featuring the naked major Kusanagi. mothers and fathers were going on about their disgust, it was quite funny. i think m&a pretty much died out in Poland now.

Anime and Manga are quite dead altogether; they're repeating their selves.. The one recent manga that I thought was actually really good and original is 'DOGS: Bullets & Carnage'. There were fan made scanlations going for a while, but now it is finally being officially translated into English.. hopefully not getting toned down because it is a graphic seinen.

yeah many things get lost in translation or they simply get censored. i used to love it cos it was quite difficult to get a few years backin pl, and it was always so different and special. more of a fan of girly stuff or yaoi i am, well, used to be don't have time anymore.

Not everything gets censored, it depends on what Publisher localises it.
I'll mention Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon.. I know it is girly shojo and all, but the original story was really good and I enjoyed it, even the 'Another Story' RPG and damn I loved the CAVE beat em up (superiour to Final Fight imo). The Anime changed the story a bit, but it was also quite good... but then it was localised by Americans who totally blew it all to shite.. Cut entire scenes deemed 'unsuitable', placed in stupid 'educational' themes.. they of course cut out Uranus and Neptune being lesbians...
I'm strictly into seinen now...

Yoshi probably knows Japanese Yellow Monkey and X. They were 2 very popular bands in Japan a few years ago.

I found Avalon a bit boring as well. Although I'd like the atmosphere, the colours, loneliness, Ash' glasses, the cooking scene (I used that one to improve my "cutting skills" :P) and the final with the opera.

I never was quite into mangas/anime, but a while ago I discovered Ghibli and it really caught me. Never thought I would still like anime series at my age. ;)
My favourites: Spirited Away, Tonari no Totoro and Howls Castle. I could recommend those!
