Do most Poles accept Polish people born in other countries as Poles or consider them to be foreigners?

How do you define 'accept'? Not object to a Polonian (Diaspora Pole) living next door, dating or marrying your daughter, invite one over to dinner or what?

That is a good question. I guess when I meet someone born in Poland in the U.S., I feel a certain sense of kinship. I certainly go out of my way to be helpful to them and talk about the experience of being Polish in an "English" and Prostestant society.
Having read many of the threads on here, I believe I can see that Polish people, no matter where they are born, do share some experiences in common. Having to always spell your last name, listening to the horible attempts at pronunciation, the jokes. The complete misunderstanding of the Polish nation and its history. This all leads to a bit of a twisted sense of humor towards most things.
To be honest, I am very interested is seeing what the experience of "returning to the homeland" will be like. To be in a place where my name is "normal" and my religion is common. Wil I feel completely out of place as an English speaker or will I feel like I am among my own? I guess to a large extent that will be determined by the additudes of the people I meet. Which, I guess, is why I asked the question.

Well when i visit Poland my family and people that i meet for the first time always refer to me as being a "kanadyjczyk" (canadian).

Also, on my last trip to poland i watched a court tv program where a pole (who spent 2 years working in england) was on trial for a crime in poland. All members of the court as well as the witnesses referred to him as an "anglik" even though he was fluent in polish while his english was barely understandable (he threw in a few english words/phrases during the trial for some strange reason).

Don't be surprised if you don't feel "at home." Though this my change if you stay in the country for a longer period of time.

Never! Oh yes we will pretend a diaspora Pole is OK with us and then we'll gather at night with torches and pitchforks and white hoods and burning crosses and down goes Olisadebe!
