POLES DROWN STEINBACH IN EFFIGY -- PAP

PAP reproted that a members of the Mlodziez Wszechpolska in Gdańsk dronwed the leader of the German expellees Erika Steinbach in effigy , instead of Marzanna. The old tradition has thus taken on a political twist. Steinbach is notorious in Poland for highlighting the hardships of Germans chased out of Poland after the Second World War. whilst ignoring who started the war and how many millions the German Nazis had killed.

This week, the Polish ambassador to Germany, Marek Prawda, too questioned the German League of Expellees' role in the planned museum.

"It is problematic when you select just one element out of the chain of humanitarian catastrophes from World War II and make this the basis of European remembrance," Prawda said.
