"Poles love to bowl" - another Polish stereotype? (& other sports)

I was talking to people at work about Krysia's wedding and showing them the video (which they were very impressed with btw, Mrs. G.). My boss asked what Krysia's husband does for a living and he made a comment that he probably bowls a lot. I was somewhat confused by that....I asked about it, and my boss said it's a stereotype that Poles love to bowl.....I had never heard that, but I was speaking with a friend of mine who's dating a Polish guy and they literally go bowling every week. Has anyone else on here ever heard of such a stereotype and if so, from where did it originate?

Hence the reason it's a stereotype....just wondered where it originated.....how did it come to be?

What's wrong with bowling? I sometimes go to bowl but it's hard for me to find a Polish person bowling.

There is nothing at all wrong with bowling (although I must admit I'm not very good at it). I was just curious as I had said before why such a generalization exists?

you should go to Poland:), of course after you drop in Toronto:), I personally prefer a game of pool:), so I migh kick your ass, or let you win since you will be the visitor, either way, it should be FUN

pool is ok. what rules do you play? last pocket?

its probably worth mentioning at this stage that pool is an english game and all other rules are null and void... especially the polish one that allows you to move balls if they are not in the right position...

i once took a girl on a date to play pool hall once.

since i'm competitive i didn't let her win even 1 game.

then just perhaps i am better qualified to comment on how pool is played in poland :-P

1. if you scratch then the other player gets to position ball where he wants.

2. Polish rules allow for flukes

english rules, the correct rules, allow you to scratch your balls to your heart's content providing you are not sharing a cue

Bowling is damn expensive in Poland!

I got to see that for the first time in.. Belgium. they say it's fine to move the cue ball if it's too close to one of the cushions.
