Just a question, as quite a few of my friends are finns.
What do Male Finns think of Polish Women?
Female Finns on Polish Men?
and vice versa.

My wife is very keen on the way they look :( :) Yes, it works both ways. I am glad that she took an interest in them as I like Scandinavians but I had to keep an eye on her ;0 ;)

I've never heard a Pole say a bad thing about a Finn.

Oops, I often make that mistake. There are only 4 Scandinavian countries, right? Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Ah well, Finns are hospitable people and have interesting laws.

It depends according to who, Seanny. Some say Scandinavia is composed of 5 countries, inc Finland and Iceland. It's not really an accepted mistake that Finland isn't part of Scandinavia. There is much scope for debate.

Only if you ask the Finns or Bjork or Finnofied Scandinavians.

That's exactly what the Finns want you to think ;p

Rubbish, they speak some weird language and should be treated as weirdos or Hungarians, depending on how deeply you feel about the whole issue :)

Not at all, Seanny. There are many authorities that include Finland as part of Scandinavia. Go and check wikipedia. There's more than you may think.

Look, some see Finland as part of Western Europe. That has also been documented. It's further east than Poland.

What is the deciding factor then, Seanny? I don't think it's language, sorry. Look at Britain, for example. The Welsh and the Scots have Gaelic but England doesn't. We are still part of the same group though.

I think offically, it's considered Nordic but not Scandinavian, just like Iceland.

Although I did see that some people were proposing that an independent Scotland should join the Nordic Council along with Estonia - as both countries clearly have shared heritage.

Nordic would be Denmark, Norway and Sweden. It just depends who you ask if Finland is Scandinavian or not.

More than likely, she has a problem with herself and is venting. I bet she bases that opinion on knowing 2 roguish Finns.

Finland is one of countries i like the most. I dream of going there somewhere. I can't say anything about Finnish men or women as i've never met any of them.

Very reserved and not very talkative but started having fun when they got drunk? Wow, you have summed up Poles nicely. Many nations fit that billing, Germans very much so.

Many people think that there are a rather big difference between Finnish people and people from the rest of Scandinavia.

I've lived in Finnland for half of a year so I know that the Finns are like the other people - different...
But talking about stereotypes in Poland:
Finnish guy - giant lumber jack in woolly pullover not saying a word and drinking a lot of vodka...
I've even heard such a joke:
"Three Finnish guys decided to meet for a drink - the two came to a house of the firs. One of them says: 'Hello' and the host says: 'We have met here to drink or to talk?!'"
I know it is not very respectful one but it is the only "stereotyping" joke about Finns that I've heard and it might give some clue about view of Finnish people here...

Also the films of Aki Kaurismaki were quite popular in Poland, and unfortunately they could rather strengthen this kind of stereotypes...

Regards

Lukasz

Finns are OK, they fought hard against Russians in Winter War 1940. :):):):):)

As a teacher, I have also read that education in Finland is top class.

I also heard that Finns are allowed to keep guns at home but murders/deaths by firearms are very low. Civilised nation! :):):):)

I would disagree too but I did hear a Polish woman (my ex-neighbour) say that Finlandia is better than most Polish vodkas. I want to try a cranberry one. Wódka z zurawiną, nice!

Finlandia is one of the best vodkas in the world (if not the best, I wouldn't vote against it).

Traditionally, Scandinavia is Sweden, Norway and Denmark (minus Greenland and the Faroe Islands),

Add Finnland, Iceland and the Danish territories and you have Norden (also called the Nordic countries).

Yes, socialist ******* like to make you believe that guns are bad but the truth is that the right to bear arms actually decreases crime.

I'm an American and I proudly own firearms. There was actually a town in Arkansas that required all household families to own a firearm. As soon as this law was passed, crime incidents were cut in half.

The whole idea that allowing people to own guns will bring crime up is only a myth made up by idiotic liberals.

I am far from being socialist/liberal, but I do believe guns are bad for people. :):):):)

Hmmm, I am doubtful about it. Certainly not in US. Probably only in civilised Finland. :):):)

I'm an American and I proudly own firearms.

Proudly? Until the day your child accidentally fires a found gun at his/her younger brother/sister. Or he/she takes it to school to make a little massacre of fellow students. Or even worse, your wife accidentally shoots you coming home late at night.

Thank you for such pride. :):):)

That is why I live in Poland and appreciate it very much. :):):)))):):):)

As soon as this law was passed, crime incidents were cut in half.

But home accidents surely increased. And school massacres.

Not only liberals, not only.

The answer!

Really scandinavian countries = Norway, Denmark and Sweden. If you count in Iceland then you should count in rest of the old Norwegian/Danish colonies also wich is nonsense.

as countries and geographicly it's thoose 3, but by culture I assume Iceland to be one too and the small islands.

Samer and Finns are not Scandinavians they are Ugro-Finns just like the Estonians
