I really like paintings of T Lempicka (1898-1980) her style is really impressing and I like this "evil" womens eyes on her paintings ;))) and angel ;)

I like Zdzislaw Beksinski paintings. I visited his Gallery at the Castle Museum in Sanok, this summer. Amazing place.

Natalka, I think it is about 230-250 km (5 hours drive). You can also take a bus from Krakow biega.com/sanok-bus.html

His most famous works include oil on canvas paintings like Battle of Grunwald, paintings of numerous other battles and court scenes, and a gallery of Polish kings. It's amazing when seemingly classic archtypal scenes have layers and layers of depth that you don't immediately see, which seems to be the case with him. So maybe I will give you one exaple of it (the easiest ;) to show) The jester is the only person at a royal ball who is troubled by the news that the Russians have captured Smolensk. This event happened in 1514. and this jester isnt casual one ... It's pretty terrible to read about his last few years of life, but at least he had a long, accomplished career.

I have noticed that we talk here about Polish sousage or vodka and we have a lot of much more intereting things in Poland. The same as USA has much more interesting things to show than Bush or McDonald ;))) as to communist times ... yes I agree we lost a lot of talents and time ...

A very good observation Łukasz. It's time to get sausage, vodka and bigos (great things nonetheless) out of western minds. It may take however another generation to do that. Poland is such a new kid on the block and the government is not helping. Promotions and good, positive advertisement could do wonders. Unfortunately, it is the opposite in the media. This is why you hear more about Bush or McDonald, instead of all the greatness that America is and still could be much more...

What a fantastic set of pictures :),not all to my taste I admit but all pretty stunning non the less. Quoting: witek What about Wojciech Kossak Actualy the artist I came on this thread to mention :). I found a large book of his art in a second hand shop in my town in the UK,a Polish book (many turn up as we have a large '45 generation pop') that thankfully at the time I bought it also had a section in English(it still has that section,i mean I didnt speak any Polish at the time....) and found his story and his work most interesting, he actually served as a Uhlan in the Austro - Hungarian army and has such an eye for horses. A few years ago I was lucky enough to see one of his very large battle scenes close up,and one not on public view while visiting a friend at the Armed forces Museum in Warsaw and have been hooked ever since. I also think his adverts for a certain still available brand of piwo are charming.
