could be her birthday
when I was a scout (harcerka; our scouts were co-ed) it was kind od scouts' tradition to celebrate one's birthday

we used to do it 'na motylka' (butterfly).
I had this 'pleasure' when I was 18 and away during some oboz (a camp)
I had to face the floor, was lifted by my friends who were holding my legs and arms and basically were throwing me up in the air and when 'flying down' I was being hit by each of my firends - up to 18 times (or whatever your b-day number was)
Of course I was being held all the time/supported so no chance to hit the floor or anything like that.

The clip shows this but it's not the same. I thought only scouts had wierd ideas?

Obviously this is normal. Strange tradition, and people don't seem to know where it came from.

Czy to jest normalne? Nie znam tej gry.

No, it's not normal. I think it's something borrowed from army rituals. It was called "fala". It's very disturbing.

Easy to make fun of it. But to be serious for a moment. It is disturbing when they are beating hard as in the second clip. Probably difficult for a drunk teenager to say no. If is a tradition okey, but when they are beating hard it really disturbs me.

Perfectly normal in the country where corporal punishment is/was practised...
It is 18 birthday, child become a grownup. 18 hits symbolize the last time when person can be beaten by parents. It suppose to be soft but rarely is...

SzwedwPolsce

yes, with the current PC brigade it's difficult to smack a child

I didn't complain
for your info, guys

we were getting plaquettes for various things...like not eating for 24 hrs, or being silent, or being away from the camp and sleeping in the middle of a dark forest (i think it was the bravery one)

it was F-U-N

believe me :)

It would disturb you if such drunk guy would hit you one the back missing your butt.. Seen a poor girl getting it that way, ouch..

I'm not making fun of hazing. It's wrong in the army and in civil life. Could be fatal if combine with alcohol.

It's a slippery road.

We have a similar thing in Scotland called Dumps...you get hit on the back once for every year on you birthday. We used to keep our birthdays secret to avoid getting punched in the back numerous times throughout the day...even teachers would do it (albeit softly!).

In my part of Scotland n. Aberdeenshire it was either dead arms (punched on the upper arm) or head leags (kneed to the upper leg). Again, we kept our birthdays quiet... :-)

Dead arms and dead legs were daily ritual, we needed something special for birthdays, so fists into the spine was the choice of the day. It's a wonder no-one was seriously injured, I remember hitting and being hit really hard on birthdays.

called Dumps

We had the "bumps" where you grabbed by each of your limbs and thrown upwards and caught just before you hit the ground, needless to say you hit the ground quite a few times.
