Polish Theatre- held back by Kantor and Grotowski.

I recently saw a play at the local theatre staged by a group from Lublin. It was cr@p.
There were long speeches, said so quickly you felt they must have had a limited time for the play to be done in; drab, miserable set (the set itself was technically great, but just so dark and dreary), mannequins, over serious, pessimistic and looked like something from 20 years ago.

Other shows I've seen in the last few years have loads of people screaming, running half naked and beating themselves, long monologues with rushed delivery etc.

To my eyes these shows seem to be the bastard children of work like Grotowski's Laboratory Theatre and Kantor's Cricot. But the style of staging just seems hackneyed and lacking in conviction. If it is supposed to 'move' me, it fails and I spend most of my time wondering how much longer the thing will last.

A year ago I saw Gardzienice and was wowed by their work. They are from the line of Grotowski, yet don't dwell on the Laboratory stage.

Does anyone else have the same thoughts?

Any suggestions who to see to restore my desire to watch Polish theatre generally?
